Parenting

Case 1:

This past Sunday at church during lunch time I overheard a dad was scolding his son who said, "it's ok if you are at home, but now you are outside, you better behave yourself or else..."

Why this double standard? Is that right? Or what kind of message is he is teaching his child?

And he seems very confident with the way he teaches his son?!

Case 2:

The daughter of a pastor was crying desperately. I walked over to check if everything okay? And found that her 2-year-old daughter wanted to watch videos on a cell phone, the mom won't budge. But why are you giving her the cell phone to watch videos the first place?!

Case 3:

Another pastor's 2-year-old son was so quiet sitting still by himself while his mom was using a cell phone nearby. I wondered what was going on?! Turned out her son was watching videos on the computer alone.

Announment

Don’t remember since when our church start having video announcement, the media director have a different church member to audio taping the weekly announcement.

And there’s time that I wondered when he’s going to ask me to do this announcement thing?

This morning, I was going to church office to ask the secretary some questions.  Once I step into the office, the media director asked me to the announcement for this coming Sunday.

46th annual

Have a guest speaker for the annual anniversary, it is fine to me.

Just a personal opinion, this speaker has been more like an Asian parent, I mean, the way he preaches for this special occasion, hard to tell the encouragement or scolding. Was he trying to praise or blaming? And yes, he does has the history of the church in the sermon.

The other congregation, there's a short introduction of the history of the church and then is the message.

I really don't mind, each year has a short history of our church, though it's the same old thing, it is our family history. Even it is exact same history, it can be presented in a difficult way, at a different timeline, a different inspiration.

Youth Parents

Friday night:
Kid: Do you have the host family's address?
Me: (with a very confused look), it's in the email and your dad should have known.
(As I recall, this particular kid has been asking me, about, "do you know where is my dad?", several times, Sunday, after church service.)
(When I went pick up my son, this dad didn't even pick up his son, one of the advisor give him the drive??)

Saturday:
Group message:
Elder text to parents to correct the address of the host family which parents need to pick up their own kids.
At first, I don't want to reply, in the email that the elder send to parents, the address being given in typing is wrong, but there's also a Google Map which has the correct one.
Then there's a parent replying, "I also need to pick the kid from the host family?"
And there's another reply says, what time he/she need to pick up the kid?

( I must apologize and admit that I didn't get to spot the typo in the address for I use the Google Map to do the routing directly.)
That's when I cannot stand it, totally, and reply, the address is correct in the email and there's also the complete info for parents to know ahead.

My question, is, if you don't know the detail info about your kids' event, you agree to send your kids there?
You don't even appreciate, I mean, come on, this wonderful event is completely free of charge, people who involve arrangements and coordination, elders, host families, advisors, they all have their own daily responsibilities, their own family, works, school and the like.
You are the parents, they are not your babysitters, please, for crying out loud.
They also mention in the email, hoping the parents can come to pick up their own kids in order to know their kids' advisors, is that asking too much from the parents?
Have you ever letting your kids know that you really appreciate the church's efforts and ensure to your kids that you will pick them up after the event, in today's case.
