movie review - Meet me in St. Louis

Meet me in St. Louis, is a classical musical film.

A nostalgic family-oriented musical full of charm and pleasant songs, “Meet Me in St. Louis” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” are one of those.

Part of the movie, when the young man finally ask the young lady next door to the Christmas dance party and find out that his only tuxedo is not ready for the party. When the young lady is so miserable about it, her grandpa tells her, he just find out he can still fit his tuxedo from young, so he is willing to go with her. I am so touched, and make me retrieve my memory about my own grandpa, he die almost 30 years ago; I still miss him a great deal.

Last week, to save the cook time, I make the leek pancakes ahead, before I go to work, so I can come home from work and cook right away.

And with surprise, when I come home the pancakes are cook, ready for me to eat. Yeah!

An inspiration story.

「若以癌症離世，是一種恩賜。」馬偕醫院院長楊育正昨天在「在我離去之前」新書發表會上指出，癌症不是詛咒，是給人第二次機會，去完成人生未能完成的事，去說出尚未說出口的話，讓人生不留遺憾。 

楊育正前年剛擔任院長不久，接到自己的病理切片報告，原來困擾他兩個多月的三叉神經疼痛，是罹患了淋巴瘤，瞬間宣告他由一名治療癌症醫師，成為掙扎於死亡邊緣的癌症病人。

「為什麼是我？」楊育正說，每個人知道自己罹癌，都有相同的哀傷反應，他也不例外。為了對抗六公分大的淋巴瘤，他採用強度最高的14天高劑量化療療程，卻也讓他最驕傲、年過五十仍茂密的「秀髮」，開始一把一把地掉落。 

楊育正某天下班後，直接到醫院地下室理髮廳，掏出台幣100元，請老闆娘將他剩餘的頭髮理光，再請太太陪他去買假髮。他說，「我這才知道，假髮最大的市場之一就是癌症患者。」但癌症難纏，在六次化療、八次標靶治療與四次髓鞘內化療期間，楊育正兩度受到併發敗血症侵襲，和死神擦身而過；他也因為化療的身心折磨，情緒悲傷，偶爾半夜會突然一身冷汗驚醒，讓他必須服用抗憂鬱劑。

「這不是一本書，It’s the beating of my heart（這是我的心跳）。」楊育正說，若以不同角度看癌症，其實癌症提供了一段時間，讓人思考人生還有哪些沒說出口的話、沒有交代的事，可以及時彌補。

楊育正也公開寫給太太林佩親的情詩：「如果有一天我不再醒來，請不要哭泣。」林佩親昨天到場為先生打氣，還大聲告白，「我非常喜歡他」，夫妻感性擁抱，讓人動容。

"Die from cancer, is a gift." says the Mackay Memorial Hospital’s director, Yang Yuzhong at his new book publishing interview, "Before I an gone," cancer is not a curse, is to give people a second chance, to complete the incomplete, to say yet unspoken words, live a life without regret. 

Yang Yuzhong, two years ago just take the job as the director of Mackay Memorial Hospital, shortly after that he received his pathology report, originally bothered him more than two months’ trigeminal neuralgia, is actually lymphoma, all of the sudden, from a cancer physician, declared as a cancer patient, struggle to the brink of death.

"Why is me?" Yang Yuzhong says, the same reaction, anyone when is told has cancer, he is no exception. To fight his six centimeters lymphoma, he is treated with the highest dose chemotherapy for 14 days, lead him to lose his most proud of, over fifty years old, still has thick "hair", begin to fall off largely. 

One day after work, Yang Yuzhong directly goes to the hospital’s barber shop at the basement, take out NT $ 100, and ask the lady barber to shave the rest of his hair bald, then ask his wife to accompany with him to buy a wig. He says, "That’s when I realize that one of the biggest markets of the wigs is for cancer patients." Cancer’s tough, during six chemotherapy, eight target therapy and four myelin chemotherapy, Yang Yuzhong experiences twice side effects, invasion sepsis, and almost die; also because the physical and mental tortures from chemotherapy, put him into deep sorrow, occasionally sudden wake up and sweating at night, force him to take antidepressants for it. 

"This is not a book, it’s the beating of my heart (It's the beating of my heart)." Yang Yuzhong says, from different point of view, cancers, in fact, provide a period of time, let people re-think about life, to complete the incomplete, to say yet unspoken words, recuperate before it's too late.

performances - mom & son

Three events, including one rehearsal and 2 performances in one day the other day, we all have wonderful time.

That’s talk about it, all 3 of them no overlap and we even have enough time for travel in between and quick lunch before we head to our next destination. I bring the simple lunch share with my young one with 2 buy drinks (to show the support of the event) in the car right in the parking lot.

I have an early rehearsal in the morning then the young one has a performance at noon time, so he goes with me for the rehearsal, awesome, right?

Then 4 o’clock, we all go and meet my old one to a special Christmas program, “the best Christmas ever”, at friend’s church. That is impressive. A show, in between with couples of marvelous songs of the season, it’s a musical, drama, choir, and a full orchestra performance.

Who say, the performance has to be divide into age group, combine them make a lot more amusement.

They all may not be professional yet, but they sure are the best. If you do have something to say, please say it with a loving heart and tender words. Or you really cannot stand it, please either simply walk away or create one yourself.

mommy & son / How to make Green Onion Pancakes

The other day, my older one told me, “you got to teach me how to make green onion pancakes”. Yes, after I made some that day with my way. And I have a fun time to work with him, and am really proud of him.

 

Here’s How to make Green Onion Pancakes:

1.      4 cups of unbleached wheat flour, flavored with salt and pepper, mix those dry ingredients well.

2.      Add in one whole egg and 1 table spoon of healthy oil, I use coconut oil (melt it with a little of warm water), mix them altogether really smooth before add the water in.

3.      Adding gradually of 1 cup or less of water, to form into dough, then in my case I divide them into 16 equally portion.

4.      Use rolling pin and roll individual dough into round circle disks. They should be a little thinner on the edges than in the middle, we’ll eventually be pinching the edges together when we make Green Onion Pancakes.

5.      Then the last part is cook them, the toughest part, make sure both the dough and green onion are fully cook when done, yum! Yum!

praise in the desert

Would you be able to praise the Lord when you are in big trouble? Today’s the first time in a row, two of my clients cancel/change their orders, and I feel like crying out and don’t want to go out or talk to anyone. But I ask myself, do you want to sit and cry alone the rest of the day or life? Or just simply give all the sorrows and burdens onto the Lord then enjoy all the joyful moments that I deserve as a child of God.

I have events and services going on at the day and Friday and Sunday. At the beginning, I do decide to hide myself in just like before I did when I was in troubles.

I have a graduation ceremony and a luncheon followed at Tuesday. a special Christmas program at the local library the same day night which I almost forget, if I easily let sadness and worries and complains and self-pity and all kind of negatives thoughts bury me or I never start my blog that's when I am writing this blog makes me suddenly remember this fun family event. Then I’ll miss this amuse time with my kids and many others, yes! Both of my kids willing to go with me, And I win a prize which is hardly happen to me before. Yeah! After the game we watch a movie, "meet me in St. Louis". I’m going to write a review at that one too as soon as I can have some spare time.

Something is extraordinary for this week, the moment when all the negative thoughts come pour onto me, this song, Praise in the Desert that we are going have for worshiping for both Sunday and Friday come into my mind. It’s the song and the Love that embraces me and comforts me at that instant.

Also couple days ago, I have a bad dream about I lost my handbag again, as I recall right now, the feeling is wired. Again Lord has prepared my heart of some distress.

A book of lamentations, good thing it’s only 5 chapters. Being sad or down its ok, but don’t take it too long to recover.

When I read this chapter, I feel the conflicting inside of my heart. Who doesn’t want a perfect, miserable free life? Unfortunately, that’s not the lives most of us encountered or encountering, and a lot of time we never realized what happen to our past is the best teacher to us. Stand up and learn from those mistakes.

Think about it, when our lives are really flawless, we forgot something truly important. For example, the relationships, between relatives, friends, co-worker, strangers around us, the Lord, are not so crucial now, and always say later when I have time.

I used to run away from God, I thought I have everything, I’m so proud of myself. I don’t need to waste my time to go to church.

I like someone says that the church is the “HOSPITAL”. It doesn’t mean when you in troubles or sick so you go to church, it also mean that you could be the doctor or nurse or even a volunteer to help people heal from the wound. God is the leader and the Bible is the Bible. Come to church with brothers and sisters all together, that’s help each other.

The other day, me and 4 other friends, we have a wonderful day trip to the Huntington library. And we talk, walk, admire the nature and some arts, we also have the brunch together. The brunch is delicate, kind of expensive though and it’s worthy at the same time.

 

You got to enjoy the life and treat yourself good, indulge yourself sometimes with something special, a new pair of shoes, fancy dress, wonderful meal and so forth.

 

It’s been sometime, I haven’t had the chance to really enjoy outdoor in this loving daytime. Kids grow up; they don’t always want to go out with you. And yes! They should have their own life too.

Baked Oatmeal Snack Bars

 

I just cannot not share this recipe with you, I found this one online and it use neither butter nor sugar and it’s very easy to do.  But it does have some sugar in the dried fruit like cranberries though, and you have choice not to use this one, for example use raisins instead.

One more thing is I use cholate chips instead of seeds for it. First I love cholate and the kids too also it’s on sale at this holiday season, I just cannot resist them. It also has some sugar and butter in it too. Next time I’ll surely add some seeds too.

I cook 4 batches at one time and cut the milk to 4 cups instead 5 otherwise, it comes out too moist. And I strongly recommend you use the pizza cutter to cut into pieces when it’s done, it comes out really nice bars.

Ingredients

·         1.5 cups rolled oats

·         1/2 cup chopped walnuts [or any nuts you like

·         1/2 cup dried fruit (any you like – raisins, cranberries, dates, figs)

·         1/4 cup seeds (any you like – sunflower, pumpkin, flax, sesame)

·         1 tsp cinnamon

·         1 tsp kosher salt

·         1.25 cups skim milk

·         1 egg

·         1 tsp vanilla

Method:

1.    Preheat oven to 350*

2.    Mix dry ingredients.

3.    Mix wet ingredients.

4.    Pour wet into dry. Stir to combine.

5.    Pour into a 9×9 baking dish either coated in cooking spray or lined with parchment.

6.    Bake for 40 minutes.

7.    Cut into 9 squares.

Mac & Cheese

In a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat then sauté with as much as garlic as you like which I use a whole minced garlic bulb then diced onions then diced tomatoes until the onions are cook. Depend on the size of the onion and tomato; I use one small onion or half of a big and 2 medium of tomatoes.

Add a little wheat flour and whisk constantly until the mixture turns light brown in color, add milk then add whole lot of prefer kind of cheese, here I use more than one pound of them continue stir until almost all the cheese are melted. Remove from the heat.

And do forget to cook the mac while you are preparing the sauce, so you can have them done the same time. I use 12-14 ounces of it.

Mix the drain mac with the yummy cheese sauce well and make sure save some of the sauce to place them on the top of the mac, why? To make if really pretty when it out of the oven. Then put them into pre-heat oven at 350 °F until the top is golden brown. Which I never pre-heat the oven as the master chef said, ha-ha.

This is the TV show that I watched lately. At that time, they divide the interview into 2 parts; I watched the second part which starts with interviewing not the singing part. And later, I got chance to get online to watch the whole interview.

She’s an amazing singer, but when I watch by the second part first, I won’t think she has such a powerfully voice by her talking. She’s young, humble, humorous and truly honest person.

Parenthood is never easy. Every single one is individual and unique. Even between brothers and sisters, between twins, or even between your own five fingers, each and everyone have their own personalities and functions.

The other day our church has a youth parent meeting which is held periodically, so parents can know what’s going on their kids’ church lives. Who are the pastors, the advisors, what do they do every time when they are out of your sight.

And there’s a quite big issue about that one of the parent suddenly found out that her kids are getting out the worship meeting earlier without anyone to inform her and also her kids has some problems on getting along with other kids. Parents and advisors give their own opinions and thoughts and feedbacks and even provide some way trying to help.

Some of them are, “their kids also encountered the problems before”, and that’s how some other parents try to think of a way to help out.

There’s one advisor’s feedback really caught my attention, “you don’t switch your second priority with the first priority, otherwise, you’ll lose both of them in the end”, truly, the first priority is your relationship with our Lord. Yes! Peer pressures always play a crucial role on coming to church or not specially for young people. But it’s not all.

The advisors’ parents also speak out for their kids, “the manpower is not that much, they volunteer their time and energy and everything trying hard to take care of their younger brothers and sisters, and it’s tough”

“There’s something that we can do and there’s something that we cannot do and there’s something that we all cannot do, only our Lord can do.” This is the combination between son and father’s feedbacks, pretty touched.

But in my own opinion, parents play the most important roles on their own kids’ faith lives. They’re watching your faith lives. Show and show use any way that you really concern about their church lives by talk to them, encourage them to take part of the church activities, volunteer your time to help out on their events, listen to your kids voices. Here what I meant listen to your kids are not just by physically use your full ears to hear, also observe with your own eyes, ears and hearts too.

No one or nowhere will or is the babysitters for your own kids.

Wow! It’s been some time since last that I really get onto the word/blog for writing and just for writing something not for a specific purpose.

It is really a relief on that too.

I just cannot believe, it’s the holiday season again, think about it, it’s almost another year going to pass. Good thing is we can use words, photos, drawing, recording, videos or some other ways to save all the special moments, good or bad.

Do you or do I have a New Year resolution at the beginning of 2014?  Have they all accomplished? Actually we still have a little bit of more than a month of time to make efforts on that, right? So let’s seize on that precious time and do it.

oops i did it again

Yes! I did it again!

I feel really bad. I had another vomit due to the not so fresh food again. And this time my younger one also has some of the food. Good thing is he is ok.

Oh! Lord! Please help me learn the lesson. Be good with food storage, and don’t even risk taking it again even I have to waste a lot of the food. Especially this time my younger one has some too. And thanks again, I am ok and nothing happen to my younger.

Last night is truly terrible, the vomit, the worries for both myself and my son.

Around 11 years ago I was in big trouble; I lost my job, that’s the sole income for my family too. My kids are only one and seven years old. And my company was applying the green card for me at that time, all of the sudden, I became an illegal immigrant. I felt like there’s no way out of it. But Lord never forget about me, He reminds me it’s time to come back to Him, at that point I’ve away from church and Lord for some years. He told me, let’s hold hands together, face and solve the problems one by one.

The other day my younger one seems very tired than usual, so he goes to sleep couple of hours than his daily schedule. I turn off the light, TV, computer and everything just be with him to make sure everything is ok with him.

And the same day my older one has late night class; he came home later than the routine. Oh! I just cannot help again to wait until he’s home then going to sleep myself.

Take care of your love ones are an easy or tough job? I know that I shouldn’t’ worry too much; I do pray a lot though.
