Funny thing is I still remember why at the last minute I made the choice not to take that job. Simply because the day of the interview was rainy. After the interview I walked out of the school and forgot my umbrella there. And I thought that was not a good sign, so I gave that offer up. Silly me or not!

Trilingual-1
Recall back to years ago I got the certificate of teaching young kids English. And then I got a job offer at a trilingual kindergarten. Somehow, I decided not to take that offer. Now I thought if I did take that job then I probably would be trilingual.

You are what you eat. You are what you think. You are what you read. You are what you are friends with. The sentence can go on and on. Beware whatever you are connecting with! And the truth is no matter what you encounter with, it’s always a double-edged sword. Same as good or miserable, if you deliberate positively the outcome is positive likewise the flip side.

In total, four people say hello to me.
Next week is going to be busy. Got four days interpreting assignments.
“It Doesn't Have to Hurt: Your Smart Guide to a Pain-Free Life”, the book that I am reading now.
I have to repeat again and again. So please bear with me. Thanks to all the people who support me, consciously and unconsciously. Including the people whom we met in person and the authors of the books that I read or am reading. You are all my heroes and healers. Without you guys, I won’t be able to stand tall ever again.

Day Seventy Three
Bunch of thoughts is coming into my mind.
Activities to attend and volunteer, and of course still searching for jobs.
Coming out of the comfort zone is definitely not an easy job. Wait! On second thought, back a few years ago I used to do volunteering a lot. Need to help myself back to the ground ASAP.
A horrible day! Breakdown! Cry!
My iPad & iPhone got stolen. My older one is the one to locate them and help the police get them back to me. Thank God for everything!

Day Sixty Nine
Denied from my first job application.
Introduction to Composting Workshop
Recollecting back last Thursday’s workshop, one of the seniors shared about how he is recovering from PTSD. Amazing!
Too late to confirm an interpreter job, so I lost it.
Day Sixty Eight
To the arboretum, it’s really nice to be there. Especially with a group of nice people, and it’s free.
Sponsored by AYC. We got free rides to and back. Free tram rides, this is also my first time to take the tram with the wonderful tram driver and perfect narration. Lunch’s free. And free souvenirs from the arboretum.
Everything was great except overhead some people were gossiping behind me. I am not going to waste my time and energy on that. The funny thing is that I didn’t even know them and they never even bothered to say hi to me since I was new there.
Grocery shopping after the outing before I head home.
Thanks to all the books that I borrowed from the library. All the authors’ authentic sharing about their lives experiences and suggestions. Though there’s never a one-size-fits-all remedy. The book that I am reading now, “We Can Do Hard Things”.
Appreciate all people who are willing to initiate the conversation with me, or even if it’s just a simple hello to me. Since I was new there and also I am an extremely introverted person.
Thursday, November 6, 2025
Day Sixty Seven
Grocery shopping and pump the gas.
Break down during the phone interview with the EDD. That’s too much to handle for me right now. Losing my job is really hard for me. Why should I go through all this again. Terrible experience. Thumbs down!
Watched movie, The Maze Runner.
Finished the scavenger hunt and now waiting to get the prize on the 25th.
Wednesday, November 5, 2025
Day Sixty Six
Library, chafing and more. Before waiting for the library opening, have a short nice chat with three seniors.
I have been to different city libraries and I have to admit that their infrastructure is better.
Workshop, “ You Can Do Hard Things” that I attached today. Some of the concept happened to match the book “Discover Your Passion” that I am reading now.
Sent out my first resume, feels kind of weird and uneasy. Just found out there’s for this that I applied might be the chance of working evening and weekend. If that’s real then it’ll be a big no no.
Day Sixty Five
As I walked, I recalled that when I was working as a sales representative, I used to drive around places. Here and there, near and far.
Being a salesperson, you get to meet different people, and the best thing is you are working on your own schedule, well most of the time.
That’s when I can have time to do volunteering, meet with friends, and take care of the kids as a single mom during the week.
.
To PACE program open hour, have a tour, some simple food, and win some prizes.
Didn’t go to the coffee and conversation.
Monday, November 3, 2025
Day Sixty Four
Can a job come to me please.
Didn’t attend the women’s support group today. May not participate ever.
Dodgers winning back-to-back World Series championships. Proud!
Sunday, November 2, 2025
Day Sixty Three
Active Streets
Walked around 10 miles today.
Enjoyed tacos and tamarind drink before heading home.
Didn’t get to watch any performance. They clean up too early also.
Day Sixty Two
Music of the Gabrielenos
What an experience and learning!
Almost every day walk one hour, more than 2 miles.
Originally wanted to dine in a restaurant, but it’s due to a big group of reservations. Though there is outdoor seating, we left for other options.
Then went on to the second option. It’s packed with Dodgers fans because it’s a bar type of restaurant.
Continue searching and then we bumped into a church pastor that we go to. We chatted a bit and he told us that he was heading to the restaurant for a group gathering, which is the one that we planned to go to. So I joked about it, “oh that’s why we could not get seating earlier”.
Also, he told us he is leaving the church for another job out of state.
Went to the third option, got in, surprised by no surprise that no baseball game was played at the restaurant. Quite empty but some Togo’s. And this restaurant is right across the restaurant from our first stop.
We also get the good deal with buy one get the second one 50% off. Tried sake this first time to have alcohol with my grown-up kid, and I haven’t had alcohol in a very long time. I never enjoy it.
This particular one changed the name and food portions seem bigger than before. Come hungry, leave happy.
Actually we did want to go to a restaurant before we explored the first option. It closed for the break and by reading the menu that was posted on the door, we then gave up on it. Addition to this one, we did consider a buffet one, but for dinner not quite. If for lunch, that will do it. Whenever I go for the buffet, I tend to eat way too much; you know all you can eat, you get to have your money back.

Day Sixty One
Two interpreter jobs in the same city, back to back. It seemed easy, but it turned out I was late for the second one. Why? Because Google Maps gave me the wrong direction, it was kind of frustrating. Thanks God, luckily the conference that was supposed to do the interpreter started a bit late. Anyway, I made it. That was closed!
I stopped to ask the strangers twice: one bike rider and one car driver/passenger. Really appreciate their helping, otherwise I really don’t know how I will be there by myself.
The first conference interpretation is quite different from what I had before. I was interesting for the parent with her preschooler. In the little office including me seven people. And have to listen and interpreter between the mom and her son. Talking multiple tasking, wow.! What a experience!
Got some treats from the second job, cookies and coffee, happy. Also had a terrific conversation with the workers and other interpreters.
Overall, enjoy the works.
After all that went to a nearby library had a good rest, used the computer, charging the phone and used the restroom before I heading back home.

Day Sixty
Huntington library free day, didn’t get to book it.
Workshop, not so great.
Halloween scavenger hunt.
Watched movie, Day Shift. It’s for Halloween, no complaints. Not a fan of horror movies.
Drive not to drive; that is the question. One way drive, the other way walk
EDD, give up, what a painful experience.

Day Fifty Nine
Tourniquet, the new that I learned from yesterday’s workshop.
Oldies but goodies, we all have a fun time today. One of the workers’ husband came to visit her, and he was wearing a T-shirt that had “Oldies but Goodies” printed on the back of it. And then another worker has her birthday celebration, so we sang the happy birthday song to her.
Albert
More interpreter jobs this coming Friday.

Shocked by two dogs barking at me when walking past a house. I was literally jumping and pounding and startled for like half a minute. Talk about the haunting house for Halloween. Someone could have died from that sudden ghost.

Day Fifty Seven
Women’s support group had a wonderful talk today.
And a famous Spain dish, Paella.
Grocery shopping, it’s anytime the store is full of shoppers. Aldi has really good prices compared to other stores; that must be the reason why.
Had a really awesome walk to the nearby park with my younger one. It’s a blessing.

Day Fifty Four
Go Volunteering.
Change of plan for today.
Still tearing whenever I hear worship songs, heal me please.
Christian "Zumba" is for real, wow!
Battleship
This movie makes me thought about AI.
One day, will AI rule the world or even destroy it. Or I should say, the human’s ambition.
Profit over benevolence, that is!
Sarcasm, sometimes old means good and useful!
Everyone is capable in some way even if you are handicapped in some way; corporation means everything!
Even the leaders need to have a listening ear and need encouragement.
A mixture of sad and happy endings.

Day Fifty Three
Interpreter, quite a different experience than I had before.
And the interesting thing is that the school where I do the interpreter. Yesterday, the first time I joined “Healthy Hearts Walking Club”, we walked past this school. Unbelievable!
Bingo, didn’t get to play it. After done watching the movie “Battleship”, it’s too late to join.
Interpreter
The people whom I used to work with for this interpreter side job passed away during the pandemic.
Though never seeing each other, we only communicated through email. She seems a very kind person.
I read the old email and found that the last email that she sent to me stated that she was trying to find an interpreter while she was short of help. But I couldn’t make it. Sad!

Day Fifty Two
Healthy Hearts Walking Club
Oldies but goodies
Grocery shopping, tomorrow, that is.
Watched the movie, “Stranger Things”.
Sometimes you are willing to commit to the group activities only because they welcome and remember you. You feel warm and needed.

La La Land
Musical movie, so enjoy such a singing and dancing film.
A friend to inspire, encourage, and support to not lose the passion and fulfill your dream.
Sebastian, the Jazz lover, and Mia, the actress dreamer. They almost gave up on pursuing their dreams to reality.
In the end of the movie there is a flash back of these two friends lives with a different ending.
Is that a happy or sad ending. I have no clue, but it surely is what call it, “friends forever”.

Day Forty Nine
I love the Zumba and Salsa Aerobics class. But the music is too loud; it gets me into thinking. Should I or shouldn’t I continue to go. As loud music is not good for the health, especially the hearing.
To go or not to go, that is the question!

Volunteering
This week alone I met two gentlemen both over 80 years old, still volunteering.
One is a Portuguese gentleman, the other is a Japanese. And they both are multilingual, unbelievable! They are energetic, hilarious, the list can go on and on, seriously.
Life
Life is a book. You are the reader yet the author; you are the one who makes the decision when to turn the page and how you want the story to go and end.
As the reader, it’s your choice to make: be a rushing reader, reluctant reader, slow down tasting, and enjoy it.
Too much idle time got to turn it into more words.
往事只能回味
Heard this Chinese song playing and confirmed that it’s coming from my younger one’s cellphone.
The first thought coming into my mind is that he is trying to learn Chinese with it.
It turns out that it’s only the background music of the video that he is watching.
Listening to the song is one of the ways to learn a foreign language.
Me sometimes listen to the Cantonese radio station and imitate their talking word by word.
Meaning you ought to create a learning environment for effective learning.
Day Forty Eight
Got an interpreter opportunity from the connection of an old friend.
Though it’s only for like one and a half hours, I really appreciate this opportunity.
Grocery shopping at two local supermarkets.
To the library for charging and hydration as usual.
Homemade popcorn in the oven, didn’t do it today, maybe tomorrow.
“You cannot heal in the environment that made you sick.”
Totally agree, otherwise you will be in a “Vicious circle” of sick and healed, or maybe even worse.
Friday, October 17, 2025
Vicious circle
I suddenly realized why seniors are complaining about their pain and they all look obese to me.
In my mind, I always want to tell them if you can lose some weight, it will definitely help in relieving the pain. Didn’t say it because I am not a doctor or any kind of professional.
The “vicious circle”: the feeling of pain versus the scary of moving. The side effects of the pain killers, steroids, and such.
Also heard that some doctors or nurses tell their patients not to move too much or it will make you worse.
Knowing that proper exercise will help to relieve the pain and improve the strength for sure.
Nonetheless, the mood, the diet, all of them play a crucial role in pain or other sickness.
Day Forty Seven
Zumba
The world of juicing & salads
Healthy cooking class
Salsa dance aerobics
After all the events, go to a nearby library and apply for the library card. Using the computer before heading home.
All those exercises and classes make me feel energized, it’s all worth the drive.
Those are what I long for and need to.
Forgot some of the nutrient knowledge, though my major in college is nutrition science. Wow, and that’s long long ago.
Using the pen, not the computer, to write and draw some interesting things while I was waiting for the last class. The last time I did so, that was a couple of years ago.
“This increase in oxygen not only supports the mitochondria's energy production, it allows your body to function better and to use its energy more efficiently. Plus, your body gets a boost from an exercise-induced increase in hormone levels that makes you feel more energized.”
Thursday, October 16, 2025
Day Forty Six
Went to the bingo game; at the last game, there were 3 people, including me, who won at the same time. But I am not the one who calls out “Bingo” first; also, there is only one prize left. So, technically I didn’t win.
At least I got a lot of treats. It’s quite fun. Also out of the four winners today, 3 were sitting at the same table.
Went to Aldi for some grocery shopping. It’s before 2:30 pm. But it’s packed with shoppers, most of the on sale items were gone already. Do people need to go to work and earn money?
Wednesday, October 15, 2025
Sixth Street Viaduct
“ Completed by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering and opened to the public in July 2022, the new $588 million Sixth Street Viaduct is the largest bridge project in the history of Los Angeles”
Sometimes, a not fancy name doesn’t mean it’s plain.
Full Rouble Rainbow
On the way back home, I noticed a car stop in the middle of nowhere. As curious as I am, I turned around and checked what was going on. I saw this awesome view of “Full Rouble Rainbow”.
I took the picture and suddenly realized why that vehicle was stopping; picture taking, for sure. Gratitude to that particular stopped car and also my curiosity. Otherwise, I would not be able to view this nature wondrous.
After the picture talking, I thought that I should quickly walk home and share it with my kids. But then I changed my mind and sent the photo to them by texting right away. And guess what my younger one texted me right back and stated that he was just about texting me the photo of this “Full Rouble Rainbow” he was just took to me. Is that something!
Actually, when I took the photo, I didn’t observe it was a “double” full rainbow. Until we both got home, he told me.
Oftentimes, we need cooperation and also view things from different angles and such. In order to accomplish better.
And because of the technology to make it possible to share photos this way even, my older one can see the gorgeous nature even though he is living in a different state.
What a wonderful day and world!

chronicler
For our talking group, I mostly listened rather than talking. Yesterday one of the friends said to me that “are you the chronicler, because you hardly talk”. I won’t blame her, since I was new to this group, no doubt that she was suspected.
By the way, that’s a good idea. They seem to all have some sensational lives.
Only, how I wish that I could write well.
Rosemary
I love the smell of rosemary. I try to plant it either from store bought or propagated myself; however, as usual, none of them survive by far.
Lately I spotted one of the adult centers that I go to has some beautiful rosemary bushes. In my mind, I thought maybe I can go ask the staff’s permission to cut/trim some, or I can wait for the trimming worker to save some when they do the trimming.
Then, yesterday, when we had the group talking, I saw the trimming worker trimming the bushes. After the meeting, I went out and grabbed some on the way home. Though I really wish that I could have all the trimmings. Or even better have my own bushes at my home.
Day Forty Three
Eating right, exercising, in-person interaction, learning new things, and a good night’s sleep are the best medicine.
Never the medical doctor, medicine, psychologist, and so on.
If only it’s a critical or life-threatening condition, then doctor, surgery, medicine, or whatever it takes.

Dat Forty Two
I didn’t go to the Karaoke this time, though I sort of wanted to.
CicLAvia—Heart of LA
We went for a good walk of more than 5 hours and more than 14 miles. After the whole walk, then we dined there before we headed home, which is also near the bus stop and a friend’s recommendation. Use the restroom, have a good rest, and drink plenty of water without worrying about where to find the restroom.
Originally we were planning to get a drink near the restaurant, but it turned out that it closed at 5. So we took the bus home and drove to the nearby shop and bought the drink.
Ps.
When we got on the bus home. I noticed that a couple that dressed really neatly and nicely was taking the same bus when we went to this event.
How do I recognize and remember them? Firstly, obviously their outstanding outfits. And also I am that kind of worried person. I always alert the things or people around me. It’s good or bad, I don’t know. Plus, it’s for safety at least.
I also enjoy observing the things and people around me. This one I learned from a little workshop about acting that I took years ago; the instructor taught us that you get to observe different people to sharpen your acting skills.
As I got in the car, my left calf had a sudden cramp. And we arrived at the drink place, my right calf cramping. Good thing that it didn’t happen during the driving, phew, that was close.

Day Forty
Our neighborhood Community center seems to offer a lot of activities.
Really upset, go all the way there and it turns out the center is closed. Either remodeling or fixing something of the office, but didn’t show on the web. Several of us went and found out. They do have a lot of good programs. Maybe I still will try to go again. However, I will be sure to call before I go to confirm it’s open.
Watched the movie, “Monster: The Ed Gein Story”.
Not like any horror movie at all.
Watched the movie, “The Mother”.
Sad story.

Brazen
Always feel uneasy about reenacting crime scenes in detail. Will that accidentally motivate another person in the commission of a crime? Or I should say it did happen before.
And again are you willing to risk your own life to rescue others?
Parenting is the toughest job ever. Teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, likewise, your kids. There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all. And oftentimes we thought what’s best for them might turn out to be the opposite.
Some people are living double lives, consciously or unconsciously. Not everyone can survive under pressure, abuse, trauma, and more.
Life is not a fairy tale. A lot of times it’s cruel and ugly. Every now and again, you got to Autodidacticism.
Never give up or be brave to stand your point.
Day Thirty Eight
Oldies but goodies singalong
Watched the movie, “Brazen”.
Karaoke
Still don’t want to join them, listening from the next door for now.
Two mis remembers in a row this week. First one, I thought the movie was playing on Tuesday but it’s Thursday.
Second one that I thought the “ Oldies but Goodies singalong”, is starting at 12 noon; it should be starting from 10 and ending at 12. Can’t believe myself for this mistake, this is the second time that I want to join them. On the flip side, at least I get to help them upload the music instruments onto the teacher’s car.
Keep my fingers crossed please, no more blunders.

Moon festival, this is the first time that we bought moon cakes out of my own pocket. Delicious! I’ll say it out loud. Before the moon cakes are almost always from the company that I work for or the clients or friends.
There are today 7 different kinds of them along with the pomelo, one of the must-haves at this particular holiday. If only we can make tea and drink and eat and all under the moon, that’ll be perfect. Oh! Well, I have no complaints, happy!
Mid-Autumn Festival Tea Brewing and Tasting Presentation (library program)
In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, we will be partnering with Callisto Tea House where they will provide an educational presentation on the origins of tea and demonstrate Gong-Fu tea brewing techniques. And mooncake tasting, generously provide by Kee Wah Bakery.
Women support club, we have a good time today. Though most of the time I am just listening ears. But isn’t that being a support club for, so glad to be there with each other.
Finally uploaded my resume to CalJOBS.

About My Father
Relationship between family member and “The film stars Maniscalco and is loosely based on his life and his relationship with his father”.
Talk about how not easy the immigrants’ lives are, what dreams they are chasing.
How hard are the parents trying to bring up their kids. Sometimes it may not be right or the best, or the kids may never understand you.
You got to Reconciling with one's past, or else you make yourself and the people around you, and especially your loved ones miserable.
In the end of this movie, the conflict dissolved.
“Family isn't one important thing; it's everything.” – Sebastian (Sebastian Maniscalco)
P.s. I wanted this movie twice and it still makes me laugh and tear and it also speeds up my review for it. Otherwise, who knows when I am going to do this writing.
The reason why I watched it twice is because I watched it at the senior center and the senior asked the staff there to play for us; she totally forgot that she just asked for it the week before. At first in my mind I was sort of complaining about it. However, I chose not to say it. First of all, we are all getting older. Also, English is not my native language, and it’s free. So it’s all good for me, a win-win situation.
Oh! And about the peacock, nope, I won’t spoil it, watch for yourself.
Day Thirty Three
Watched the movie, “About My Father”, the second, still makes me laugh and cry.

Day Thirty Two
Huntington Library free day.
Lady 89 years old and a gentleman 100 years old still driving, wow!
The truth is that I would rather have a job right now than to apply for the EDD benefit. No mention is it’s kind of cumbersome, and it’s not a guarantee approved either.
Reading vs. Speaking
“Reading is the process of brain storming the statement while speaking is the way to producing out what's in the brain”
“Reading makes people consciously aware of common sounds, spelling patterns and grammatical structures within a language while Speaking demostrates how words are formed and used.”
As I am not a native English speaker. I enjoy reading English books out loud, not just hearing my own voice, improving my pronunciation and more at the same time. Also hoping it will help to make my conversation with people easier and smoother.
However, I found that it is quite different between reading and speaking. Also, social activity is associated with the promotion of mental well-being, such as improving memory, executive function, visuospatial ability, and processing speed, etc. Therefore, I should try harder to attend more social activities. In fact, it’s a mutual way, meaning we are helping each other, be proactive.
More importantly, here, we are talking about the in-person social activities.

National Coffee with a Cop Day
Wednesday, October 1, 2025, 9AM-11AM! Connect with your local APD officers over a cup of hot or iced coffee generously provided by Wendy’s (1201 E. Valley Blvd).
Ask questions, share concerns, and get to know the people behind the badge. We’ll have giveaways and pink patch merch for sale! See you there
I actually get to go this time, but kind of disappointed. First of all, I am an extremely introverted person. How I wish that any of the police would initiate the conversation with me. In the end, I only stayed maybe 5 minutes, had less than half a cup of coffee and two souvenirs.

Day Twenty Nine
Krispy cream, very generous for the “National Coffee Day”.
I love to shop at Trade Joe’s, the music, setting, environment, price, and so on. If only I could, I would bring my chair outside of the store and listen to their music or even dance alone with the music.
Only got to watch, “San Andreas”, the last 50 minutes or so.
Finally got to done with applying for EDD; however, they still need to have a phone call with me for the final qualifying. Wish me luck.
Still need and want to get a job ASAP. It’s been some time since I needed to find the job myself instead of referring from friends or family.

Day Twenty Eight
Altadena, for the first time, went there after the fire broke out in January.
So sad to see most of the land that has been burned down has not been rebuilt yet.
Some of the homes survive in the middle of the ruins.
Aldi supermarket looks intact outside but actually has been burned down. The store, grocery outlet, right across still open for business. Is it rebuilt or does it survive the fire?

Day Twenty Seven
In the movie, “Wet Hot American Summer”, the camp counselor team makes the promise to gather together again, and they are wondering what they will become after.
As not really old but not young anymore like me, I am wondering who I will be after 10 or 5 years.

Land of Bad
Talk about the military training. How does that teach you how to survive in critical moments?
Never can imagine how to survive in that kind of situation. Witness your comrades die in front of you. Making the life or death decision in no time. Never surrender and never give up to recuse your comrades.
Many soldiers came back from war, but suffered from PTSD. I mean how strong the physical and especially the psychological can walk out in whole. It’s truly beyond the imagination.
Day twenty Six
Encounter with so many people, authors, instructors, and such, with the same name as mine. Never meet any of them in person.
How I wish I were one of them, not be famous or rich or anything, but be the happy and helpful one.
Watched most part of the movie, “Land of Bad”, like 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Enjoy watching the seniors ballroom dancing and singing along with the music. They are not young anymore, but they are surely strong and dance beautifully. They all dressed up for it nicely.
Too bad I don’t know how to.

The Karate Kid
Our family never breaks the promise we make.
Life may make you break down, but you are the one to make the decision to whether to stand up or not.
The master’s family tragedy, so sad. God sends angels to help you heal little by little. Actually, it’s always a mutual way. No one is ever alone, even a piece of petal, leaf, the dog, the cloud above the sky, the wine, the rain; it can go on and on. Sense it, accept it and go with it. No fear, no regret.
Never give up, win the competition fair and square with respect.
Kid in the movie is from Detroit.
The author of, “Of My Own Making” that the book I just finished reading is from Detroit.
And her name is Daria Burke, I saw the sign,”Burke Manor Apartments” on the way to the library right after I watched this movie.
