busy month

Almost the end of September, it is a very busy and profound month. I was the usher for mandarin and Taiwanese congregations, three community services within last week only in a row.

That’s how I can listen, sing and learn so many different hymns within the month.

yum! yum! dinner

We have a wonderful on preparing the dinner yesterday.

Garlic breads, we make the garlic butter from scratch, minces garlic and really butter not margarine, according to my kid. It comes out just right, it’s beyond yummy.

Lotus roots soup with the shrimps and shrimp shells soup base. That I found a good usage of the shrimp shells, it makes the soup, a kind of unique flavor, just add a tiny little bit of salt is perfect. It also makes the lotus roots delicious and flavored from that.

Brownies make from the ready to bake powders and some others has to be added on, yum!

We three work together make this delightful meals together in the limited kitchen and kitchen tools, like knife and cutting board. It’s a luscious and fun dinner night.

Eagles - Desperado

Desperado

When I first heard this song, I don’t know much about the meaning of it yet, I am attracted by the melody and the passions that the singer try to express. Then I try to read the lyrics word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, it draws me to more thinking.

A wonderful song to share with, Desperado by Eagles, a touching one, and hope you’ll like it too. My goal for this week, learn it and share it by singing it along with bible story to my senior friends next week.

A lot of times, we lost or we feel we can do it all by ourselves.

The love is near, but we try to look for the far one and we cannot get it.

We chase after vanities, money, status and so forth. We leave all the important things or people behind.

We think, we are different form any others, we set a high wall to separate from others.

There is always a lovely rainbow behind the rain.

Seize the time and do what you should do before it is too late.

Luke 15:3-32
3-7 The Parable of  the Lost Sheep 牧人尋找一百隻羊中迷失的一隻
7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. 我告訴你們,一個罪人悔改,在天上也要這樣為他歡喜,較比為九十九個不用悔改的義人歡喜更大。」

8-10 The Parable of the Lost Coin 婦人尋找十個銀幣中遺失一枚的故事
10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” 我告訴你們,一個罪人悔改,在神的使者面前也是這樣為他歡喜。」

11-32 The Parable of the Lost Son 浪子回頭的故事
31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” 31父親對他說:『兒啊!你常和我同在,我一切所有的都是你的;32只是你這個兄弟是死而復活、失而又得的,所以我們理當歡喜快樂。』」

Every single of us are unique and precious. You maybe the weakest sheep amongst all, you may feel like you are just a small coin, you probably ever done wrong before or feel that you are not worthy at all. But in our Lord's eyes, you are truly valuable. He is our shepherd, He will risk His own life to bring you back and all the others will cheer up all together when you are found. He is like the woman who lost one of her coin and tries hard to retrieve the small coin back. He is your Father cherishes you and gives the best and everything to you, whatever you may done unfit or sin before. If only you willing to repent to Him. He will love and accept you unconditionally.

Bible verse:

17 “When he came to his senses, 他醒悟過來

First line of the lyrics:

Desperado, why don’t you come to your sense?

book review - The Owner's Manual for the Brain2

Thank God, I finally finish the book, The Owner's Manual for the Brain, and return to the library.

It is a big, challenge and tough content to me. I learn a lot from it. But I am not sure that I can remember all of them, especially those medical terms.

I also learn that some of the things that I being doing it to benefit for my own good, I mean for my health, my brain.

One of the things, about the prayer, the researchers has been doing some experiments on it. And the results, with no surprised, it really works for the patients’ recovery.

Pray for yourselves and others, even they don’t know that you are praying for them, it works. Keep on praying for good.

God will answer you in His way and timing. He helps on your needs not wants. He will give you the opportunities to learn and earn them, not just give them to you like magic.

movie review - evan almighty

We watch “Evan Almighty” the other day. It is funny and biblical; it’s an ok family movie.

This is the poem that the nurse found after an old man dies at the nursing home.

It is sad to say that at that moment at that nursing home or we should say most of the people treat an old fellow not really nice.

We all once young, attracting or everything, we all will be old, weak and everything too. Old should equal to experienced and respectful.

Cranky Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?
What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.
I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel.
It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells
I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see.
Not a cranky old man .
Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. .... . ME!!

95% - 100%

We probably all have the experiences that when you are charging the battery for either cell phone or iPad. The closer to the fully charge the slower is the charging speed.

There’s a time, we charge the iPad before we go out then when we come home. I say to my son, “I wonder the battery is fully charge yet?” My son answers, “I bet it’s either 95% or 98%!” And he is so right, it is 95% charged.

It is late night, around eleven fortysomething. The battery is almost charge, I don’t want to stay up late to wait for it until it is fully charged or waste the whole night to have a fully charge iPad plug in.

At that instant, I’m startled at the charge status, goes from 95% to 100%!

The other day, when I try to turn on the iPad, I won’t work. I’m so frustrated, I pray to the Lord, I say, “oh! Lord, the iPad is not new but not too old either, if it broke, I won’t afford to buy a new one.” The iPad switch on right after my prayer, is that something?

Some other time, the karaoke machine is not working at the evergreen senior college. Different people are trying to fix it but no use, then in my mind, I say to myself, how about a pray for a working karaoke machine. And then you probably know what happen next, out of nowhere, the karaoke is fixed. Everybody is happy and singing afterward.

boy scout

Yesterday, one of the Boy Scout has a life project from last week, collecting the stuffs, including clothes, shoes, books or any kind of useful things for the shelter. Some of the troop members come to help.

Last week they first handed out the flyers door to door for the information about it, the reason, where are the stuffs will go to, why and who are doing it, when are they going to come back and collect them and such.

It is a successful and touching event. Not just the boys volunteer to help out for each other. All the neighbors willing to help out by provide all the not new but clean and useful stuffs. One of the neighbors even drives to deliver it to the door.

Before they set out to pick up the donations, I’m kind of worry they get only little or nothing at all. We are blessed.

After they get all the donations back, they organize them by different categories then bring them all to the shelter. We all have a wonderful time.

baptised

This morning one more our senior friend get baptized. Hallelujah! Praise to the Lord.

The morning before the beginning of the service, I always try to greet the more senior friends as possible. And she is one of them; she is quite new at this facility. As usual, I say hello to her and tell her where are we from and why we are here and Jesus loves you and are you a Christian yet? She is happy to know that we are from church group, so I ask her, do you want to be a Christian, she say yes to me. I’m kind of surprised, because not much people that I encountered, reply this question with yes so quick and pleasantly.

Soon after that she has to go do the physical therapy and the therapist tell me that she will come right back after the exercise. In my mind, I’m pounding, please don’t let her change her mind afterward and do bring her back to us.

Right before the services end, I see her come back and right after we finish the last part of the service, praise dance exercise. I ask her that our pastor is here, can he baptize you now? To my release, her answer is still yes.

noah's ark

Noah’s Ark Genesis 6:5—9:17
The full story description from the bible verses. Better read them thoroughly before the sharing.

This will make the sharing much funnier.

Biblical Noah's Ark Life-Size Replica Sails in the Netherlands
“Johan says that only about half the visitors were Christians, and that it would sometimes lead to great conversations.
It was built by the Johan Huibers, Dutch creationist and millionaire building contractor, after he dreamt that Holland would be flooded once again.
He used the ancient measurement of the cubit - the length of a man's arm from the elbow to the middle fingertips, according to Biblical.
In Genesis, described the Ark as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits. It took only him and his team of five for more than four years to complete.
He has filled it with a plastic menagerie of animals - also a few species of live birds, geese and roosters - to recreate the story of Noah for paying visitors and to make The Bible more 'touchable'.
The boat was constructed by welding the metal hulls of several old barges together and then using Scandinavian pine for the skin.
As Johan Huibers sees it, his full size replica ark is not only a message to unbelievers or Christians who doubt Genesis. It is a message to all Christians to do something with our faith. He says: “It is so important that we pass on our faith and what we have learned on to others, not keep it to ourselves. Even though you are not perfect yet, yes, even when you might miss the mark in many aspects, just put hands and feet to your Christianity and put it into practice.”

Exodus 4:10-13 4:10-13

10 Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” 11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” 13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”

vomit

Yesterday, I was sick from eating something not fresh. I vomited at work; thank God I was fine after that.

Yeah! Yesterday morning when I ate the green mung bean soup with pearl barley left over from the day before. It tasted sort of not quite right. But in my mind, there is an old Chinese saying, “不乾不淨吃了沒病 “, that means, you won’t get sick from eating something not quite uncontaminated. Thereby, I eat it, and besides that I don’t want to waste the yummy food.

Well, I pay the price, I should learn the lesson about rather waste the food than get sick in the mea time how to save the leftover food properly.

I also had some warm salted water to soothe my stomach before and after I was throwing out. And that helps a lot.

And I am glad that I didn’t force the kids to have the soup too.

Then the temple of the LORD was filled with the cloud,

Sad to say what I just witness a flaw at the library of an Asian male senior, he took one of the computer that reserved by others. He restart it and wipe out the recorder, it is a security defect of the public library computer, I think.
I feel so shame about him, he totally deny what he did.
