not my day

I get my first serious traffic ticket, my sunglasses broken, on sale ran out on me and I phone broken down. It happens within 3 months, and three of the things happen in one day. Well! What can I say, be more careful, follow the rules and pray, pray, pray!
 
Oh! Yes! Read and write more often!

Finally I make up my mind and buy a laptop from store instead of online. I have kids go with me, of course.

I’m proud of that I make the decision at last. Also the kids help me to make the choice.

Take good care of it and make the best of usages of it for sure.

animal cookies

Here is the recipe for the animal cookies that I found from the web, as usual, I take out some the ingredients from it, such as vanilla extract and the like, try to make it as simple as possible for me.

Why animal cookies? Every time when I go grocery shopping, I don’t why, I just have the urge to buy them. And I love the shape of them, also I happen to have lots of shaped cookie cutter, better not waste them. So I tell myself that you better start to make your own. I cannot wait to try them very soon.

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 

1 tsp. baking powder 

2 Tbs. (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature 

1 cup sugar 

1 egg 

 

The direction is kind of long to read along, therefore, for me, I’ll just use the simplest steps for it. Only the following 2 things, I think is important for now.

Note:

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to 2 days.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Bake the cookies until very light golden brown, not for too long, maybe 12-14 minutes, since they kind of thin dough.

When disability become enable, it’s amazing!

A must read book, how to raise a disable child, what mentality do parents, other family members, friends even strangers should have? They maybe disable in some ways but full of life and potential.

From the moment her daughter was born, the last bad day goes, everything around them change because of her. 24 years past, yes! She’s an able person and going to get marry soon, June 27 this year.

I must admit to say; often time people think is that worthy to save those broken wings angels? Or when you know beforehand that you going to have a disable child, will you dare to choice to save them or give up on them? Or does anyone of us have the right to make choice for them?

I have a friend with a disable child never give up to help him learn, spend as much as energy, ways, money and so on to help him become a capable person, treat him, teach him, discipline him just like as a regular child.

Yep! In U.S.A. only high school and up call it graduation. For junior high is called promotion.

Sometimes I really hope the time can freeze, let kids be kids and have fun lives and I, of course never get old.

The really world is full of challenges, unfairness and the like, whether you like it or not, face it and take it.

Love those kids! A lot of them, I've been watching them grow since kindergarten, cannot believe my eyes that they are so big now.

Sometimes, don’t know why? Suddenly, feeling sad, I’m a sensitive person. What I see, hear, or even when the weather changes, I can feel them or maybe is it the age, the hormone change?

One of the benefit from my job now, is I can decide not to go in the office just like that, no need to inform anyone, rest at home, and I can even handle my work from home via email or phone call.

Thank God, yesterday my older one, constantly checking on me, because he’s bored or maybe he’s finally realizes that mom is not always strong enough and need some supports some time.

We all went out and eat together, we talk, and joke around, I really enjoy.

But before I can notice, kids grow up, too soon, one day they’ll have their own family. It’s never too early too pray for their future family, a right spouse for them. Lives full of God’s graces and guidance.

6-12-2015 sharing - from a lemon to lemonade

Can you tell what those are? They are lemons from my backyard. And yes! Both of them are from the same tree. Why the one on the right is so different looks from the other one?

Days ago, when I try to pick some lemons for myself and some for friends, I spot this lemon, the distortion one, being crushed by two strong branches from both side, left and right. I immediately rescue it, cut both branches. I feel so sorry for it, it cannot talk otherwise, you’ll probably hear it say, “Ouch! Ouch! Help me! Help me!” I’m amazed at the same time about this particular one, still try hard to grow and have the functions as a regular lemon.

I thought about same situation on human beings. There are people either physically / mentally born with dysfunction or disabled due to sickness or accident or by others’ who purposefully hurt them. Some may decide stop their lives naturally or intentionally. Some grow up but with either physically or mentally crooked. Amongst those, some choice to live miserably or even hurting others without knowing it, others decide to end the wretched and start to help others the like. I've read the book, “one more step”. And others’ testimonies, so touching and happen in the reality.

Truly, we do have the choice about our own lives. Either you want to live 24 hours miserable or joyful and helpful to others. But is that easy to love a person? The answer is yes and no, depends on the situations.

how to hide a message inside a yummy cake！

Peek-a-boo pound cake

I love the idea about the cake, I’m going to try it myself, and I know that’s not an easy job too.

Ingredients

2 (16 ounce) boxes ready to use Pound Cake mix

Or your own recipe, ingredients and directions as followed.

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided, softened

4 eggs, divided

1 1/3 cups milk, divided

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Prepare your first pound cake: combine 1 box of cake mix, 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) softened butter, 2 eggs, and 2/3 cup milk in a large bowl. Whisk together with an electric mixer or by hand.

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 8-10 minutes less than instructed on box (about 50 minutes.) Let cool, remove from pan and refrigerate for up to 4 hours. Cut cold cake into slices the thickness of your cookie cutter. Cut heart shapes or any other shape that you desire from the slices. Set aside.

Prepare your second box of pound cake mix the same as the first. Coat a 9×5 loaf pan with cooking spray and pour just barely enough batter to cover the bottom. Align your heart cut-outs down the center, keeping them tightly together. Poor the remaining batter over the heart cut-outs in the pan, making sure to cover the sides and tops. Bake according to the directions on the box, about 1 hour. Let cool when done.

Remove baked and cooled pound cake from. Let set; cut into slices and enjoy the secret inside of every slice of the cake.

I used to be a very timid person, I don’t enjoy with people, and I felt very uncomfortable, especially with big crowd of people. As I change into a different person, an open-minding person, I felt regret at first. Why? Because when you know a lot people that also mean you will know more stories, sad or joy, someone has a broken relationship, someone is sick or even pass away and so forth. But I then realize that also there are always more lessons to learn, more blessings to give or get, more prayers to share at the same time.

fathers

Yes! Fathers are equally important too.

Two weeks our fellowships are in charge of usher, and when come to the time for collecting offerings, I see 6 of the handsome brothers are there to serve.

That same afternoon, we have whole church members cleaning the church time and the brothers work hard and decided let sisters go and rest earlier.

Friday night, pre-mother’s day celebration at our fellowship gathering night, again, moms get a special surprise from brothers and kids.

This week our fellowships are responsible for serving the lunch at church, and the leader announce for the people to sign up to help on serving, in one condition, no mom can sign up in terms of it’s a mother’s day.

Those are truly blessings from our Lord. Think about it, there are a lot of females; they are single mom either physically or spiritually. From our fellowship, I see brothers and kids stand up with serving hearts, and I see the beauty and the hopes all over.

2015 mother's day

We have mother’s day special meals (it’s either breakfast or lunch or dinner) at our church each year.

We all are so blessed to be served at this special day from kids and helpers. It is a Wonderful and healthy and nutritious breakfast, along with skit play, singing, prayer and raffles.

This year didn’t really plan to attend, but my kids are serving for the events so I go. I and other mothers truly have a great time together.

There’re raffle in the end and instead of use numbers as calling for winners, they use attendees’ first and last names. When it’s time for the drawing, my mind, of course, I wish I could win, not because the price but the fun and luck. But from my heart know that I’ve hardly had any luck in times of Radom drawing. Still, I wish good luck to myself and worry about something that I do know there is at least one of other mom has exactly the first and last name as mine, so I was worry about what if “Alice Chen” get to call as the winner and then two of mom going to fight over the price? As I was thinking about and worrying about, and suddenly when lift my head and see my younger one was walking toward me with the winner price, a vase with carnations. We won together!

This Friday I am the one in charge of short message sharing. And the past Sunday, I don’t know why?  Somehow in my mind I thought that I’m the do the worship song leading, so late Sunday night, I start the worship songs search. I thought about the coming Sunday will be mother’s day, therefore I try very hard to finally find 4 songs for it, I’m happy and relief.

Then the second day which is Monday, the day that I usually do sending service reminder emails for both my fellowship and the community service. That’s when I suddenly realize that I am not the one in charge of worship songs instead I am the one do the sharing. I’m surprised and shock, not by a pleasant way, what in the world that I can find a topic, prepare the content, and finish a power point file for it in, and memorize them all, what! In 3 days. I’m panic, I want to give up and walk away from everything that I need to do at that point.

It’s funny that I even thought, maybe, Allen, the one who’s actually in charge of worship songs; maybe, he’ll call me, and say, “Hey! Alice, that’s switch the service for this week!

I’m super busy this week enough with my work and kids’ activities, the younger one has 2 concerts in a week, and the older one’s final for school this week too. I don’t even remember that the coming Sunday is mother’s day. I do walk away a bit, I don’t send out the reminders on late Monday as usual.

I pray to the Lord, please help me, please hide me under your wings, I need You now and little by little, I am like a helpless child, wondering around in nowhere to go and remember at last the coming Sunday is the mother’s day. So it’s easy as a piece of cake, just have the subject on mothers, that’s it. Here and there, I have the content, a video, a song and some bible verses to share, the power point file complete right at the schedule. I try my best to memorize the content as much as my little brain can do, and rehearse in my mind tons of times before I go and share this short message. Mission accomplished.

Until this morning while I am excising at the park and message left for me from Sarah, who is the one is supposed to do the worship leading for this Friday’s fellowship gathering. She said that something came up and she won’t be able to do it this time, so she asks me to cover for her. And yes! I do have all the songs available and ready for it, the only thing that I concern is, my dear friend, Sarah, the only thing that I can do now is pray for her.

Actually before I can get this worship leading thing, I do thought about to share at least one of the song for the Sunday school leading for this mother’s day Sunday. In my mind, I’m so satisfied by I can share those songs with actually audiences and share about the thought about the song. And then, you won’t believe what you see here is, one of the brother call me for some other things that’s how I suddenly be reminded that this week due to the mother’s day special service program, this Sunday’s school is cancelled.

Lord will bless us for more than we need.

book review - still alice

Finally I get to borrow this book from our library and finish it. It’s a book and it’s a movie too now. And I know for sure that my kids won’t want to go see with me so I read the book.

I can only understand why they want to put this book into movie, so touch, from the point of the patient’s view to see and describe the world around her, from the day she feels something not quite right with her to been diagnose probably is an Alzheimer’s victim to know for sure that she has Alzheimer’s disease.

I tear a lot over this book. Especially the describes about Alice attend the national Alzheimer’s association, the speech and when she read the letter that she write to herself before she lost all the memories.

The author, Lisa Genova, with a degree in Biopsychology and has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Harvard University. She’s been interview a lot of activities and in contact with the people who are close to Alzheimer’s disease including the patients themselves, the caregivers, doctors and the like.

One thing got me a lot of thinking is, should we do or not to do the genetic disease screening program about whether we might be the candidate of certain kind of genetic disease? I totally agree that kind of test with fetal or I should say embryo instead.  But with kids or adults is that necessary, may be in some way. As I ever heard people say, “you are killed by you own fears not the disease”.

Being educated about diseases and get involved in the support groups are so important. The professional support groups or just regular ones like with the patients’ family. And also support groups of any kind for our daily lives, no one can survive without companions, but just be ware of which type people you are being with, if you don’t think you can have a good impact from them, leave, quick, before it’s too late.

腓立比書 Philippians 4:4-7

4 你 們 要 靠 主 常 常 喜 樂 。 我 再 說 ， 你 們 要 喜 樂 5 當 叫 眾 人 知 道 你 們 謙 讓 的心 。 主 已 經 近 了 6 應 當 一 無 罣 慮 ， 只 要 凡 事 藉 著 禱 告 、 祈 求 ， 和 感 謝 ， 將 你 們 所 要 的 告 訴 神 7 神 所 賜 、 出 人 意 外 的 平 安 必 在 基 督 耶 穌 裡 保 守 你 們 的 心 懷 意 念 。

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's   womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
