Prayer Meeting - November

Oh, and for the hike, I have something to say, I really appreciate that Jeremy who plan the whole thing.
The designed drivers, Paster Eddie, Paster Jacky and Jeffery, without you guys we won't be able to make it, for every time when I heard LA or downtown LA, literally, I jump.
James, who brought the lamps and headlight for the hike when I heard he said he prepared those for the hike in the parking lot, in my mind I thought who will and why do we need that for?

Thanks for the all the brothers and sisters that hike together, especially that day we made some wrong turns and such.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

3 weeks ago, our fellowship went to watch the Sunset at Elysian Park while we were hiking down the Angel's Point in the dark. This bible verse came into my mind once again.

About 24 years ago, one night I felt that I had to go for a walk for some fresh air, as soon as I went out the door, I regret, I was scared, it was dark, I was alone, and I was pregnant.

This bible verse popped up my mind and that comforted me.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Back then I was not a believer or a church goer.

Let's pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You and we love You, Your word is powerful and You know us even before we were born, You know our every thought before we open our month.
Lord, please open our eyes so we can see You, open our ears so we hear You open our hearts so we can know You more. Lord, please help us to pray not just for our own needs, but pray for others' needs near and far, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen!

Let's quickly go through the prayer requests before we break down to small groups.

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You and we love You, thank You for being with all this time, Lord, please bless our following services, the ushers, the presider, the worship team, the speaker, our friends, brothers and sisters, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen!

Life

Life is a book, the front and back cover has been set the day you were born.
You are the author of your book.
It could be a long or short one, though it is not our decision to make.
But you do can decide how the story goes.
A boring or exciting one?
A story full of colors, songs, lessons that can inspire others.

Thoughts

I was born and raised in an atheism family in Taiwan.

What if I was born and raised in a Christian family in America?

How about if my kids were born and raised in an atheism family in Taiwan?

Prayer meeting - October

Good morning everybody, welcome to HarvestLA prayer meeting.

Today first I want to share one of my collections, peppercorns.

You probably won't pay attention about what the container the peppercorns are in, what kind of material, color, size and such.

In this case, it inside a plastic bag which is inside a blue bag.

And you know it is peppercorns base on what I am telling you, by the color, the shape you see or the smell of it.

How about ourselves, how do others identify you when they see you or how do you identify yourself, what is your identity?

Let's pray, dear Heavenly Father, we praise You and we love You. Lord, we are willing to empty ourselves, sometimes there is maybe anger, worry, hurt, doubt, unkindness inside our hearts. Lord, help us to let go, and let God's Holly Spirit, mercy, love, healing, power, blessings and wisdom fill us up.
So when people see us they see us as God's precious sons and daughters.
We are first loved by You so we can love others, we are fist blessed by You so we can bless others.
In Jesus's name we pray, Amen!

Let's quickly go through the prayer listings before we can break down into small groups.
Also pray for the world, for the past week there are a lot of things going on.
There are earthquakes, typhoon and flood in Japan, the fire in California, bridges broken down in Taiwan and China and the political issues.

And we will close our prayer meeting around 10:55am so can have the service start on time.

Homemade Mayo Simple As 1-2-3

  • 2 eggs (whole)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon dijon style mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • I used the blender to do work, it came out really good.
  • It's really easy and it wows me too.

Pen

The other day, one of my senior friends, Mr. Ma gave me a nice gift pen with no any particular reason or occasion.

It is like a reminder to me that I've dropped my regular writing for too long.

I must pick up the pen and keep writing as I used to.

Writing out things instead of keeping it in my head is such a relief.

And now I try to do both handwriting and blogging on my computer.

Everything happens with a reason; everybody's got a purpose.

Friends forever

In the memory of Jerry...
(August 17 2019)

On the way to attend a friend's funeral, I got lost and that's when I burst into tears, Jerry welcomed me to car pooling with him and Emily. And I bet at that moment he was looking down from heaven laughing at me and prayed for me. He was like a big brother to me.

He was such a caring person for his family and friends. Two months ago, he texted me for needing some lemons from our backyard because his son had a sore throat and I learned just today that at that time he already knew he only has three months left to live. He was always joyful, never showed a sad face to others.
Screenshot Jun 14 2019

And he came to my son's baptism years ago that really meant a whole lot  to my family.

Jerry, Sara and I, 3 of of us used to walk together once a week at the park or whatever place that Jerry wanted to take a walk. Though we rest and talked more than walking. I really enjoyed and appreciate this fellowship time with them.
For a short period of time after Sara's serious car accident, we changed our meeting location to Sara's house and we worship, fellowship and pray together.
In this three of us fellowship group seemed like I was the no trouble one, but actually during those periods of time I was suffering from serious depression issue myself on the contrary, you two were the ones who accompanied me to get pass the tough times I then shared with them a while later. Without their companion I don't know how will I ever be able to cope with it alone.
Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

There was one time right after the walk we rest on the beach an old lady came up to us and asking if we could buy her last 3 packs of sweet potato leaves that she grew, without any thinking Jerry bought them all and gave all to me and Sara to take to enjoy it. He didn't have any for himself. He is always generous to others. I cooked the sweet potato leaves and kept the stems and regrew them in my backyard, occasionally I shared some with friends.
But since I changed my job more than a year ago, and we had to change our group of walking schedule we finally stop shortly after. I regretted not to contact with him as much.

We used to serve the nursing home ministry together for a couple of years, he was my role model on how to share messages to seniors. He always prepared some jokes or fun facts prior the message sharing to get seniors' attention.

Realizing that I've been busy with complaining about my life and such forgot to pay attention to the people around.

I didn't tell my son that whose funeral that I went to and he kept me company before I went and came home after the funeral, he made me delicious breakfast and bought me lunch.

Jerry I missed your laughter, a generosity, thankful big brother.

2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith.

Prayer Meeting - July

The following is my original plan on how to lead the prayer meeting. Except, I stumbled a lot and skipped things unintentionally.

Good morning everybody. Welcome to the Harvest LA prayer meeting.

A little bit of more than one month ago. While I was driving to work in the morning. I said to myself "I should start to practice how to pray in English. Then I drove to work.

When I got home after work I checked the message from Pastor Jacky about leading the prayer meeting, that's how I'm here today.

Let's pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you and we love you. Lord! You want us to pray continually and we call on you, my God, for you will answer us; turn your ear to us and hear our prayers. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

If you want me to share something about my prayer experience, Boy! that's hard, it's hard not because I don't have anything to share, but I have too many to share. To me prayer is like talking to my best friend and I can pray for anything at anytime.

One time I woke up in the middle of the night from the pain on my left arm. I was tossing and turning it was so painful that I couldn't go back to sleep. So I started to scount the sheep. Just kidding! I started to pray. A prayer for the company that I work for. For those who don't know where I work. I work at an adult health day care center. And I started to pray for all the active members that come to our center one by one. It is more than 100 members that I prayed for. After I prayed for all of them. Guess what? I still couldn't go to sleep and I said to the Lord, You must be kidding, right? I meant I was exhausted and in pain. Unwilling I added on the coworkers to my prayer and the next thing I knew, I woke up to a brand new day and the pain was completely gone.

Prayer is powerful.

Ok, let's start today's pray meeting, did everyone have the bulletin? Please open it and on the right hand side you can see there are two categories of prayer requests, one for EFCLA and the other one is pray for the people around the world. What I'm going to do is, I'll read out loud, one by one and in between every prayer request I'll leave around 30 seconds to 1 minute and I want to invite everyone to pray all together for that particular one, you can pray loudly, softly or silently.

Let's close our prayer meeting. Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you and we love you, the prayer meeting is about to end please continue to be with us and bless us for the following services, we pray for the worship team, the presider, the speaker, for the congregations, Lord we pray You open our heart so we can know You more and have a deeper relationship with You. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

FM 100.3

This week I discovered a radio channel, FM100.3, it is a Christian channel, it plays a lot of Christian songs.

I am thinking if only I can install some speakers outside my car, so everyone can join me in worshiping.

There is no exception

I felt sick as soon as I walked out of the office on Friday, I still went on my nature walk at the Arboretum.

In my mind, I am sort of like, maybe this healthy walk will help me rip off my sickness just like that, but of course, it didn't work.

At night, I felt even worse.

My heart became bitter, I must get the sickness from those elders at work, they never cared to rest at home when they were sick, they won't cover their mouths when sneeze or cough or blowing nose or spitting just like that, all the blaming came up to me suddenly.

So, I  pray to God, first get off all the accusing inside my heart, and fight off my ail with me really quick.

Not that I am that important so I need fast recovery.

I have a Sunday school to teach for toddlers and a job working with seniors.

Thank God in couples of hours, I am 99.9% recovered.

Jambalaya

One day, one of my coworkers was sharing how she loves Jambalaya and how her sons prepared for her birthday one time, and it was surprisingly good.

But, as soon as I got home, I just couldn't recall what dish that she was sharing with me.

And right when I was trying hard to retrieve and browsing my Facebook, this Jambalaya dish pops up as an advertisement.

That's it! That's the dish the that she was talking about!

Therefore, I copy down to my blog here, so I won't forget again.
I tried it myself, it's really good.

Here are my customized ingredients, diced chicken breast, shrimp, onion, green, red and yellow bell pepper, ground black pepper, garlic, salt, the leftover oatmeal meatloaf (ground beef, oatmeal, tomatoes, minced garlic, salt and ground black pepper), brown rice.

Always stir fry the garlic first until the nice aroma came out, then stir fry a little the meat and then the vegetables when it's almost done pour in the pre-soaked brown rice continues cook till the rice is done.

Appetizing! Bon Appétit! (色香味俱全) It's colorful, aromatic and delicious!

Ear wax

I have to apologize, but you may find this picture gross.

This early morning when my younger son was trying to say something to me and I found that I can hardly hear him. I got so scared, my left ear already has a minor ear infection and couldn't hear very well now my right ear.... And I have Sunday school to teach tomorrow. Should I call Ruth to have someone sub for me? I also have chores and an event to attend today, which I have to drive the car. How am I going to drive with the ears that could not hear well?

I was panicking, then out of nowhere I thought about cleaning my ears with the Q-tip, and this is the thing that I got out of the ear. (Of course, this is not recommended, some said this will push the ear wax even further and/or damage your ears)

Sunday school / AWANA

Be honest with you, many times, I thought about quitting teaching, I am a single mom, I work hard Monday through Friday and do the household chores on Saturday, why should I volunteer my time and energy and miss my own Sunday worship?

The rewards are when outside the classroom, your kids or the parents still recognize you and thank you, and for the kids and the parents can see God's Loves through each one of us.

And of course, the foods are provided here, especially the salad made by Ruth.

Years ago I was a helper and I learned the whole lot from the teacher and was inspired by her, so, for the helpers today, I am sure that you will be the great leaders/teachers one day and inspiring many others, kids and their parents.

Be active, be creative and be friends for your kids.

tears

First, is Friday, went out with a friend and her family to an art event.

Then, is Sunday, went to a movie with friends.

Skip church two times in a row.

At the beginning, angry about him, then sad or worry, tearing, don't know what to

do.

Praying unceasing, the only option.

Question

Not long ago, a question crossed my mind many times, "Will I still love my own kid or friend, if one day he/she told me that he/she is a gay?"

Firm answer, yes!

Loquacious vs. Contemplative

Some say people who think a lot tend to talk less.

I will say that they also prone to write a lot.

Mind reading machine

I need a mind  reading machine that can also write down exactly everything that I want to write for my blog.

Sometimes I don't have time to write, a lot of time, I am either too tired to write or not in the mood of writing.

But I do have so many thoughts that I need to put into words.

蘿蔔糕 (菜頭粿/好彩頭)Radish Cake

Image may contain: food
Image may contain: food

1 pound rice flour
3 c water
3 pound shredded radish
6 oz dried squid ( finely diced)
ground white pepper
salt

You won't believe how easy is to make this dish, beside water and flavoring, you only need 3 ingredients.

I didn't purposely pick the dried squid as one of the ingredients. The other day I happened to buy one pack of dried squid and not knowing what should I do with it. Then it came the Chinese new year day, so I thought why don't I use it for the radish cake!? It came out really good. Make sure to wash the dried squid and then soak them in the water for at least one day prior of using it.

Stir fry the squid and radish with salt and ground white pepper until it's fully cooked, while cooking you can mix the rice flour and water smoothly in a bowl. When the radish is cooked, pour in with the flour and water mixture, mix them together really well.

Transfer the mixture into a lightly greased inner pot, add 2 cups of water in the outer pot, steam with Tatung Multi Cooker and Steamer, when done, insert a chopstick into the cake. If it comes out clean, then it is ready.

You can either eat the radish cake warm right after it's cooked or pan fry it.

If you are going to pan fry it, then you have to leave it until completely cool (best overnight in the refrigerator), so that the radish cake will firm up. For it will be easier to cut it, as it will not stick to the knife when you cut them into thin slices.

Three Little Lobsters (with garlic butter)

Unlike the three little pigs, this three little lobsters were all eaten at Lunar New Year Eve.

I first steam the lobsters, while it's cooking, prepare the garlic butter. When the lobsters were done, cut the lobster down the middle, spread the garlic butter evenly on them then bake them.

Make sure you save the juice from steaming the lobster and or save shells after done eating boil them all together, they the best base for cooking noodles.

Greens from Alice’s Garden, can you tell how many there are?

5 different greens (leek, Scallion, celery, leaf lettuce, Madeira vine).

Image may contain: plant, nature and outdoor

Alice’s Pull-Apart Bread

First time to try it, love it!

Made with 5 different greens( leek, Scallion, celery, leaf lettuce, Madeira vine ) from our backyard, 2 bulb garlic, sharp cheddar cheese, butter and grape seed oil.

Cut the bread on a diagonal into 1" diamonds and make sure not to cut all the way through the bread.

Stuff all the mixtures in between the bread evenly and then use the middle oven rack to bake at 350°F until the cheese melts and the bread is a bit brownish.

Tips:
1. Cut the cheese first, if you use the block cheese and you plan to cut all the ingredients using the same knife. Cut the garlic the second, then the greens and the bread the last. By doing this particular order, you will find the knife is so clean when you finish all the cutting.

2. Use any kind of oil that you prefer to stir fry the finely minced garlic until its start to brown, add in all the greens continue to cook until all done, turn off the fire adding in the butter, stir all together until mix smooth.

Fish Curry Bread Super Bowl

Just in for the Super Bowl LLI.

I got plenty of vegetables in it; celery, red onion, tomato, carrot along with fish and DIY curry powder.

For curry powder, I have almost all the spices that I have on hand; turmeric powder, paprika powder, ground cumin, ground ginger, ground mustard seed, ground black pepper, and salt.

Next time I will add ground cinnamon to it.

1. Fully cook all the vegetables and fish with curry sauce.

2. Cut a slice off the top of the bread, hollow out and leaving 1/4 inch thick shell (save removed bread and bake with cheese). Fill with fish curry and cheese cubesleave the bread cap off and use the middle oven rack to bake them together at 350°F.

Tips:
Preferably use a knife to remove the inside bread off, so you can also bake them with cheese on top, as a way to tell the bowl is done by seeing the cheese is melted.

Parenting

Case 1:

This past Sunday at church during lunch time I overheard a dad was scolding his son who said, "it's ok if you are at home, but now you are outside, you better behave yourself or else..."

Why this double standard? Is that right? Or what kind of message is he is teaching his child?

And he seems very confident with the way he teaches his son?!

Case 2:

The daughter of a pastor was crying desperately. I walked over to check if everything okay? And found that her 2-year-old daughter wanted to watch videos on a cell phone, the mom won't budge. But why are you giving her the cell phone to watch videos the first place?!

Case 3:

Another pastor's 2-year-old son was so quiet sitting still by himself while his mom was using a cell phone nearby. I wondered what was going on?! Turned out her son was watching videos on the computer alone.

Doland’s Uyghur Cuisine

Not quite a fun dining experience, our first dish came 30 minutes after the ordering, the beef is too tough to chew, the milk tea came the last and they forget our rice completely.

Done wrong serving of food twice with us.

No greetings when we are entering and leaving the restaurant.

The takeout menu all in one side, the other side is totally blank (white).

Lack of manpower, training and preparing.

Testimony

Testimony is not about the word-of-mouth.

Testimony is the act of caring, kindness, love, passion, compassion, encouragement, giving, sharing and with listening ears.

Smoothie , delicious colorful drinks

Do you drink your smoothie or eat your smoothie?

For most of you, without thinking, must be drinking, right?

What else it can be!?

If it's for myself, sometimes, I will have all the ingredients, fruits, milk, yogurts and more individually.

Why? Because I'm lazy, and besides, I love fruits, I always joke that I have a separate space for fruits same thing as for sweets even when I am full.

Why bother to blend them, and, do the extra cleaning afterward?

But if it's someone, like my kids, are even lazier to eat the fruits without someone's reminder or pushing.

I will make the smoothies for them, even it can be tedious, yes, I do so.

Also, it's the best time for me, again, blend in some tiny little bit of secret ingredients that they won't enjoy having them alone, stuffs like plain yogurt, pineapple, dragon fruit, flax seed powder etc.

And this just gives me an idea, next time, for our small group gatherings, I should have the make-on-site-smoothies for them.

Lastly, I should admit that making the smoothies can be joyful too; to see someone you love consume healthy food, to practice your creativity, your imagination, your artistic, to enjoy and appreciate our creator's creations.

The mad scientist of music | Mark Applebaum

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=46w99bZ3W_M

This is one of the Ted Talks that I listened to most recently.

Two, three years ago, a senior friend that I met at the Live Oak Rehabilitation Center, he introduced this brilliant channel to me.

Lately, I've been listening to it a lot.

Many, many interesting, awesome and inspiring topics of professional speech under 20 minutes out there.

These open my heart, mind and vision to different fields.

And you never know someone who will be your mentor at any stage of your life.

Church bulletin

Finally, I remember to give our church's bulletin along with my phone number to my dear coworker.

Being a good listener is important, to leave a contact info also can show you value her / him as a friend that she / he can always count on.

Birds singing in the rain

After work, I saw birds singing in the rain, I said to myself, "they must enjoy the rain in Southern California like me!"

So, I thought I should take a picture or video and then share on my Facebook.

But just right when I was getting ready for it, they flew away.

Boy! They must hate being shot.

To dear friends

Dear all, (Sara, Jerry, Karen, Michelle, Hermon, Michael, Gary)

Time flies, it's almost a year since I starting my new job at the Adult Day Health Care Center.

I am blessed to have friends like you guys around me, especially at the down time in my life.

More than one year ago, I was so depressed and struggled with my previous toxic working environment.

Then finally, I decided to change my job, you guys walked through with me when others disapprove my determination.

The truth is, yes, it's tough for someone like me is over a certain age and not working 9 to 5 for more than 10 years to have a career change.

Yet it's not a simple thank you that can express my gratitude to you guys. I'll continue to pass on the blessings to people who is in need just you guys do to me.

2 Corinthians 9:8-11
8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 9 As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.” 10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

Breakfast Scone

2 C Wheat Flour
3 C Oatmeal
1/2 C Sour Cream
1 Egg
1/2 C Butter
3/4 C Sugar
1 C Walnut (chop into small piece)
1 t Baking Soda
2 t Baking Powder

Again, as usual, I do, mix well the dry ingredients first, then cooperate the wet ingredients in.

For the butter, since we need to knead all the ingredients together into dough, it's not necessary to melt the butter, simply cut them into small pieces to use it.

The reason why I call it "breakfast" scones, I have the oatmeal in it, and the main purpose to have the oatmeal in it, my older son won't eat the oatmeal that I cook for breakfast, therefore, I sort of invent my own ingredients for it.

At the same time feel free to substitute walnut with other kind of nuts or dry fruits or fresh fruits or mixed or something that your love one(s) won't take it as bland or non-flavored.

Lastly, divide the dough into three equal pieces, patting each into a circle that is one inch thick.

Cut each circle into 6 equal pieces.

Bake them at 350°F until golden brown or until you can smell the delicious aroma.

10 % off / scallion pancake

Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?
I don't have the answer for you.

But I do know, last week, I found the 10% off discount coupon for Monja Taiker when I visited Douglas Auto Body & Paint where my friend woks there, one day after my son's fellowship decided to eat at Monja Taiker together before their Friday night fellowship meeting.

This Friday, I bought 2 packs of scallion pancake couples of hours before my son ate with fellowship friend at Hui Tou Xiang Noodles House, both my and another friend order scallion pancake, only found that the store ran out of scallion pancake.
So we had scallion pancakes for breakfast this morning.

California Monarch Butterfly / Lonely George the tree snail

Pollution, climate change, habitat loss, introduction of invasive species and the like, cause the extinction.

Extinction, is merely one of the effects from these environmental changes mainly driving by human beings, it can't be reserved, yet we are part of this ecosystem.

Cauliflower

Son: Why is there one broccoli in the Cauliflower dish.

Mom: I call this left behind (it came out of the cooking pot while I was cooking yesterday accidentally without noticed it, so I cook it with Cauliflower today).

Will I

Will I be OK, when my kids grow up and leave home and hardly have time to visit me?

Will I brave enough to say I’m not afraid of death?

Will I tell my kids, not to resuscitate me, if there is no chance of full recovery?

Will I dare to sign up as an organ donor?

Will I willing to join the anatomical donation program?

Praying

Today Ms. Wu came to the center, but was not feeling well, after lunch, I went to her and kept her company while she trying to eat some food for lunch.

And she asked me to pray for her, I was thrilled, I thought that I will never get the chance to pray for others at work.

I prayed God the healing and comfort for her.

Then she told me that she wants to spread the gospel to others in the center, God knows that  that actually is my mission too, but we just don't how to start it besides caring and trying to kind to others.

Something in my mind, once a week of worshipping, bible study and prayer group, both in Chinese and English, so that might attract some nonbeliever to join us.

But this is a public facility, that might not be possible.

Sang some worship songs in English, Mandarin, Taiwanese and Cantonese with Ms Yang who used to come to our center.

She is always eager to learn new stuff.

Though it's sad to meet an old friend there but thanks God to give me this chance to keep company with her, yet it's only 20 or 30 minutes a time, we talked and worship God together.

Knowing that our voice is considered a musical instrument because it creates notes and pitches. In addition when we sing we adjust and tune our voice to make the sound we want it to make just like a musical instrument.

musical instrument, I will never forget to bring.

Therefore, proudly, I can say that I do know how to play some kind of music instrument.

The past Friday, when I paid my regular visit to my senior friends at the local rehabilitation center.

Finally, I got the chance and courage to open my bible and read some verses with Bill.

Bill is so smart and active, though, he has Parkinson's disease, he is tremor uncontrolled all the time.

Surprisingly, found that Bill is super familiar with bible.

Bill is a strong-willed person, once I saw him feeding himself with his quivering hand he won't give up, he won't bother others for help.

And he also say that maybe we can some bible study next time, king forward to meet him again this Friday.
