8-1-2014 friday night discussion leading

"In Christian tradition, the Four Evangelists are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the authors attributed with the creation of the four Gospel accounts in the New Testament that bear the following titles: Gospel according to MatthewGospel according to MarkGospel according to Luke and Gospel according to John. They are called evangelists, a word meaning 'people who proclaim good news,' because their books aim to tell the "good news" ("gospel") of Jesus."

“Christ's coming into Jerusalem thus remarkably, shows that he was not afraid of the power and malice of his enemies. This would encourage his disciples who were full of fear. Also, that he was not disquieted at the thoughts of his approaching sufferings. But all marked his humiliation; and these matters teach us not to mind high things, but to condescend to those of low estate.

Jesus predicts his own death 3 times. ( mark 8, 9, 10)

Those probably the most familiar books of bible for Christians. But this is the first time that I ever so touched by it. 7-1-2014 we start from the first chapter of the book of mark, the beginnings of Jesus' ministry and such then His arrest, trail, death, resurrection. In other word, it is also the ministry preparation for you and me too.

Mark’s Gospel is an unsophisticated, succinct, unadorned, yet clear account of Jesus’ ministry, emphasizing more what Jesus did than what he said.

There are 2 people of our church service group, one is being taking classes at the seminary, the other is just been accepted by the seminary.

The first time when I read the title “ministry preparation”, I was shocked. I never thought about it and not yet ready for it either. Later I was released by knowing that this book is talking about Jesus’ ministry life.

The Triumphal Entry (11:1–11) is the portion that we are going to talk about at this Friday fellowship.

According to Matthew 21:4-5 (printed below), why did Jesus instruct His disciples to bring Him the colt?
Now this happened so that the word that was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled, (5) Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, meek, and riding upon a donkey, and upon a colt the foal of a donkey. (Matthew 21:4-5)
Jesus rode into Jerusalem upon a colt in order to fulfill the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9, 撒迦利亞書(聖經舊約中之一書)“Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, meek, and riding upon a donkey, and upon a colt the foal of a donkey.”

What is significant about Jesus entering Jerusalem riding upon a colt, rather than riding upon a great war horse? Note, again, the words of the prophet Zechariah quoted in Matthew 21:5 (printed above under question #3)
According to Zechariah 9:9, the Messiah entering Jerusalem riding upon a colt indicates His humble character. The Messiah sent by the Lord is not self-assertive, rather He humbly submits Himself unto His heavenly Father (cp. Matthew 26:39).

Have you ever heard the call from our Lord? What is it? How do you treat about it? How do know is that from the Lord or youn own thought?

How strong is your faith in Jesus? Will you answer the call from Jesus now?  If you know the danger is ahead, will you still walk into it for Christ?

11. Coffee Does Not Cause Heart Disease and May Lower The Risk of Stroke

12. Coffee May Help You Live Longer

13. Coffee is The Biggest Source of Antioxidants in The Western Diet

As coffee has so many benefits we should have some sometimes.

Have you ever heard about Black Ivory coffee. It is costly and rare. It is from  Thailand, Arabica coffee beans first consumed by elephants and collected from their feces.

The taste of Black Ivory coffee is influenced by elephant's stomach acid, which breaks down the coffee's protein. The coffee beans are digested within 15 to 70 hours, and are present with various other ingredients in the elephants' stomachs, which imparts specific flavors to the product.

But the question is will you willing to drink them after you know how they are made? I think I won’t, will you?

There are some other kind of coffee are use the similar methods, the differences are they use different kind of animals to do the job. And is that somehow abuse the animal? I really do know.

safe environment for worship

It is very important to have a safe environment either works, study, have fun, dine or worship. But sometimes you just cannot control the situation and the people who are there.

The only thing that we can do is watch out for it and protect yourself as much as you can.

marinated with pineapple

Marinated pork with sauce along with smashed pineapple, it makes the meat nice and tender.

Make sure not to marinate for too long, like over night then the meat will be too soft. Couple of hours should do the good job.

From this I also found to take good use of the pineapple cores, which are normally, be trashed and tough to consume.

People also suggest marinating with kiwis. I thought the kiwis are too expensive to be used to marinate the meat, I rather to eat them raw as fruits.

Then bake the meat in the oven for the burgers, yum!

You can use either the breads or buns for burgers together with raw onions, tomatoes and green salad. Or you can just use the green salad as the burger bun and wrap the meat and veggies together. It tastes really good and healthy too.

phobia

2 Timothy 1:7For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

1 John 4:18 - There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

English learning time, phobia means a strong unreasonable fear of something; it also is a root. For example aerophobia means afraid of flying. I didn’t count how many root words are there in total. It must be over 4 or 5 hundred of them.
Have ever has any kind of fear or still have any kind of fear?

Some of the fears are beyond imagination, like, Anthophobia – fear of flowers, Chlorophobia – fear of the color green.

Chaetophobia – fear of hair, chromatophobia – fear of colors, Melophobia – fear of music, Philophobia – fear of love, I wonder how could anyone survive with this kind of fears.

I used to have Arachnophobia – fear of spiders and Astraphobia – fear of thunder and lightning. I don’t why I had that and how I become not fear of them. I guess that I have someone else depending on me; I am the one to protect others.

hebrews 12

Hebrews 12:11
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

That is so true and so hard at the same time. One should remember at all time and discipline oneself. Discipline, again? All right, I’ll try my best.

subway - who's the winner?

The other day we use the coupons for subway. The coupon is for buy one 6” sub and a 30 oz. drink then gives another 6” sub for free. We used 2 of the same kind of coupons. We get 2 foot long subs and 2 30 oz. of drink in all.

The reason why I use the coupons is that we pay a little less of price for 2 foot long subs without drinks. In other words, we both not just save money, also get drinks for free.

But we consume a lot of sugars by that. So who’s the winner? I really don’t know. Anyway some bubbling sugary water once in a while should not be too much harm, right?

Prince George - no more birthday gifts please

Prince George no more birthday gifts please.

“His parents have insisted they do not want Prince George to be showered with gifts on his first birthday, a plea that appears to be well justified given that insiders have said he has received 4,000 gifts since he was born.”

Can you image how to live under spotlight? It must be hard.

I don’t remember since when we don’t celebrate anyone’s birthday. Not mention about the gifts. We should have that sometime soon.

embraced by hymns

Embraced by hymns, it is a special experience.

Last night I didn’t feel very well, I stayed home the whole day. I have an itchy throat. When I went to sleep at night, I pray for my sickness as usual. I bundled myself with blanket and feel like I’m bundle with nonstop hymns the whole night. I literally hear and sing along with them. It feels like a dream, a lovely dream.

I’m not complete recover yet, but I’ll continue praying for everything.

happy happy

My younger one has a busy weekend. First gather with classmate in Friday morning then the concert with church friends the same day night. Sunday morning go on a summer camp with the scout group.

The scout master says we should write postcard(s) or letter(s) to our scout(s). Why? Because the scouts will get homesick while they away from home. Who knows who will be the ones get homesick? In this case, it is definitely, me!

Pray they all have fun, learning and safe camp.

America's got talent

America's got talent is a TV show since 2006. I sometimes watch it, this show really inspire a whole of amateurs to take on the stage for chances to be spot or even become successful in show business.
Some of them come up there with some touching story behind. All kind of people take this opportunity seriously, little kids, young students, and soldiers, some even at their senior ages, 80s, and 90s.
Some of them are really talented, real entertainers, I am enjoying this show.
It also is a challenge for both the attendants and the judges.
Jackie Evancho (2010 runner-up) & Susan Boyle (2009 runner-up with Britain's Got Talent) ~ A Mother's Prayer
I pray you'll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don't know
Let this be our prayer
When we lose our way
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe
I pray we'll find your light
And holds it in our hearts
When stars go out each night
Remind us where you are
Let this be our prayer
When shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
A world where pain and sorrow will be ended
And every heart that's broken will be mended
And we'll remember we are all gods children
Reaching out to touch you
Reaching to the stars
We ask that life be Kind
And watch us from above
We hope each soul will find
Another soul to love
Let this be your prayer
Just like every child
Who needs to find a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
Needs to find a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe
Jackie Evancho - To Believe
Before I lay me down to rest
I ask the Lord one small request
I know I have all I could need
But this prayer is not for me
Too many people on this day
Don't have a peaceful place to stay
Let all fighting cease that your children may see peace
Wipe their tears of sorrow away
(chorus)
To believe in a day
When hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair
That every sparrow's counted
That you hear their cries and listen to each prayer
Let me try always to believe
That we can heal the hearts that grieve
Please help us not ignore
The anguished cries of the poor
Or their pain will never leave
(chorus )
To believe in a day
When hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair
That every sparrow's counted
That you hear their cries and listen to each prayer
(spoken prayer)
Father, as you see, I'm just a child
And there's so much to understand
But if Your Grace should surround me
I'll do the best I can
I promise, I'll do the very best I can
(chorus plus)
To believe in a day
When hunger and war will pass away
To have the hope amidst despair
That every sparrow's counted
That you hear their cries and listen to each
Prayer
{Hear each cry and listen to each prayer}
Help us do Your will oh Father
In the name of all that's true
And we'll see in one another
The loving image of You

letter - why email worship songs earlier

John 4:23
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Psalms 95:1-2

1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Yes! Worship uses not just your mouth, lips or voice, in other words you should worship with all your heart in spirit and in truth.
So it is very important to first familiar with the hymns, how the music, the lyrics, rhythms and how the tones supposed to go. You need be touched by them first, then when you worshipping, people can be touched by them too.

watch over one's tough

Proverbs 21:23
Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.

Psalm 141:3
Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.

Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Lately, I think that I’ve being speaking too much, sometimes, some words I shouldn’t s speak or I speak to the wrong person or in wrong expression.

So Lord please helps me and guide even before I speak. Please let me have good ears to listen to others.

God's purpose - the world according to Bob

God has a unique purpose on every single one of us. You may inspired by someone then later on you get to inspire someone else.

In James and Bob’s case, James being inspired by Bob and some other friends, then when he gets back into shapes both physically and mentally.  He shares his own inside story with warts and all. It has fair influences on others. He also involved some charity events and organizations, like for the stray animals and homeless people.

This one actually is his 2nd book; I’m surprised to know that, he still stays almost the same routine as before.

In this book, he also mention that there are something deep dark inside his heart that he cannot open them up and share with others. But I believe that God will heal him in other way(s). I, myself, actually has the same situation, something that I just don’t know how to, don’t want to, don’t even willing to write them down. God do using different methods and opportunities to rehabilitate me little by little.

I also learn from his story, why a people become a homeless or a drug addiction. There are a lot of hurts inside especially it’s from your love ones, that hurt even more and hard to get rid of them. Still we need to find the ways to get ourselves up. Don’t just sit there and taken them all in.

I used to be like a homeless person, not physically but mentally, using different way to anesthesia myself. Never want to open myself up and share with anyone.

Another thing that I totally agree with him is, some of the kids when they have trouble to get along with their parents. They just throw them into to the psychologist’s hands or/and psychiatrist’s hands using medicines try to control the situation. In a lot of the cases, that makes their conditions go even worse or no turning back point at all. Faith, hope and love are the most important thing and amongst love is the crucial one. You cannot have only one or two without the three of them all together.

Using ways to express your own feelings especially bad, angry or sad ones, recording, writing, drawing, picture taking, talking out, community services, gardening, crafting, music, singing, there are always ways to let out the extra energy or anger or any negative motions or emotions.

In James’ life his loyalty friend, Bob, although, he cannot talk in human’s words, he deliver his affections through his own kind of talking and body languages.

11 years ago, in my worst circumstance, my kids are my best supports and strengths to go on my life. They are the reason that i can get my feet back on again and most of all they are the ones who get me back to God.

Now I realize why those hardships or person happen or meet in my life.

Lastly only one thing, I still don’t know how can A person is willing to help a homeless people. Not that I don’t want to, but how and the safety issue. I really appreciate those people who always ready to land a help hand on others. And I believe God has a special purpose on James too.

english - misunderstanding

There are some misunderstandings of the English with the people like me, whose English is not my first language.

“Baby changing center”, a sign I see at a theme park’s restroom long time ago. I’m not quite sure how the sign exact writes. It is the first time that I came to America for a visit. The first thought that comes into my mind is, “oh! My god! I’ve heard America is famous as a country of freedom, but I don’t know they even free to post this kind of sign in public and exchange babies!?”
It turns out that only means; it has a baby change area for diapers and everything for moms or dads inside the restroom.

“Do not pass”, this one I see it when I first drive somewhere (again, its long time ago, do remember where do I drive to) the family for a sightseeing. When I see this sign, I get panic, “do not pass”, and is that mean I have to stop in the middle of the road. And then what should do next. So as I see no sign of police, I step on the gas and drive as fast as I can away from that point.

Later I found that sign means do not overtake the car in front of you, the road is only one land.

“No standing”, this one I learn from the news, says there are a lot of tourists from china, after done shopping, they squatting, smoking and resting. The news reporters curiously ask them why they don’t sit down. Here are their answer, “we know English, it says not standing, so we squatting.

Actually that means, no parking. That is funny, right?

book review - the World According to Bob

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMWpT3S0C54
This is probably the 1st time ever that I pick a book to read without any special purpose. Like when I was a student, I read and write only for examination or a school report. And times like when I joined a reading group with the book that they already pick for you.

I saw this book at a glance when I was passing the new book section at our local library. The book cover picture, it seizes my attention right away. Then I quickly read the introduction a little bit and I decided that I want to borrow this book to enjoy reading for leisure.

And of course the other purpose of my borrowing and reading is to set an example for kids and encourage them to read something new.

I finish the book in couple of days, as English is not my first language. I really like this book and strongly recommend it to others. No matter that you are a cat lover or not.

It is a true story between James, the author and Bob, the adorable little fellow. James used to be a homeless and additive to drug. And Bob used to a stray cat then James found him and adopt him. Or we should say, the other way around, Bob found James, according to James.

Then they become the best friends and family. They literally take care and protect of each other. They sale “the big issue magazine”, which is a magazine for the homeless to sale so they can earn their daily bread and butter on their own without begging, at London. With Bob’s companion, James finally out of the addiction. They even look after each whenever either one is sick.

James’ parents divorced long ago, his mum then move to Austria. James move with his mum at that time. His father stays at London and later both his parents remarried and have their own family. Since James was little, he has some difficulty times with his mum and was in and out the hospital and on medication. Then one day, when he is 18 years old, he decides to go to London to live with his father and wants to become a busker.

James first comes to London for meeting his father and lives with their family, but somehow, it doesn’t work out, he move out and start his homeless and addiction life until he meet Bob.

Also one of James friend, belle, who is a homeless and drug addiction at that time, help him a lot. Later she is clean from drug too.

I am so moved by every single part of this book. Especially when people ask James, “what if one day Bob gone?” his answer is truly affection. And there are times that James doesn’t want to mention about, those dark times of his life. That is very understandable.
Together they have so many adventures, which make me cry, laugh and drive me into a lot of thinking about myself too.

There are so many words say by James, so real and wisdom too. Like, “You can take a cat from the street, but cannot take the street from a cat.”

salsa, hummus, nachos

Chickpeas vs garbanzo peas

Is it a chickpea or a garbanzo bean? It depends on where your culinary loyalties lie. If you're with the French and Italians, you may think of them as chiche and ceci, respectively. If you're with the Spanish, then you may know them as garbanzos.

We’re all talking about the same thing: a fiber-and protein-rich legume with a slightly chestnutty flavor.
Lately I’ve making some Appetizer with chips to share with friends.
I made salsa and hummus so far.
I’m planning to make nachos soon for sharing too.
They all like my homemade recipes.

Salsa:
I use tomatoes, sweet corn ears (next time I’ll use mangos instead), onions, pickle jalapeno pepper, ground pepper, salt, cumin, (home grown) lemon juice and parsley (it should be cilantro, I bought the wrong one. I then from online, it says it’s ok to substitute cilantro with parsley. Oh! Boy that is close).

Hummus:
You will need Garbanzo peas, lemon juice, salt, cumin, paprika, some water and grind them finely altogether.

Nacho:
I will have lots of cheese, ground beef, black bean, jalapeno pepper, onion and some salsa.

7-23-2014 worship songs

Let us praise our Lord all together.
The 2nd song that I want to share with, I heard it from our church’s English congregation service the other day. And it caught my heart immediately. I don’t know what the name is. So after service I ask one of the sisters. She told me the name, it’s kind of long, and I didn’t bother to write them down at that time. Then I go home and try to search for it in the computer, I forget the song’s name completely, the only word that I remember is “deep”. I didn’t get to find it. I’m sort of upset, because I should write them down before. 2 days later I have a routine service at our church, it’s a Tuesday and it’s at the English congregation. When I walked in the congregation, I saw a pile of paper. I told myself that I should look through them; I might find my song there. How Deep the Father's Love for Us, it is beyond any words can describe.

easy songs to teach for seniors

Deep and Wide

Deep:
Wide:
There's a: there is a有一個
Fountain: 泉源 /
Flowing: 湧流

The fountain is just like the love and blessings from our God. It is abundant and never runs out.

never too old to learn - 長春大學

There is a saying, “live and learn; it is never too old to learn.”

And I will say, “The more desire you want to learn the longer you will live.”

Last week at evergreen senior college, I teach them very simple easy fireworks ring craft.

This week I use a simple and popular song, “God bless America” in English. For one of the senior wants to learn some English song, so I pick this one to share.

This senior friend, she is the oldest one in the class, over 100 years old. She is also the most serious learner.

She made 2 of the crafts all by herself, and they come out very pretty. Same for this week’s learning of the English song, she takes this simple learning to her heart. She’s always asking a lot of questions. Actually she is the one want to learn some English song.

I really enjoy being with them.

funny pun - travel with some agent

起的比雞早 you wake up earlier than the rosters.
的比豬差 you eat worse than the pigs.
走的比馬多 you walk more than the horses.
睡的比賊晚 you go to sleep later than the thief.

that means the money that you spend maybe worthy on sightseeing and attractions. but you always rush from spot to spot.

sometimes you just don't have the choice to use some agents.

hurts

in the real world, the hurts are here and there. sometimes people try to hurt you on purpose, sometimes they just don't  know that they already hurt you.

the people who try to hurt you intentionally, they actually have a lot of hurts from the past. i am not saying because that so they sould be forgiven always. we sould try to help them to be healed from the hurts. otherwise they will continue to hurt either you or some others purposely.

i pray to Lord to heal and comfort those who are hurt and those who don't even know they already hurt someone.

some people are very easy to get hurt by misunderstanding others' expressions. i think it is something to do with self-esteem. they have either too strong or too low of self-esteem. we also pray for them.

a person with or without faith, it does make a huge different on that. because we know no matter how, the Lord is with us the whole time and protect us from any harm.

divorce

I had a dream the other day; I didn’t quite remember what exactly it is. But I know that I have to write everything detail about my divorce down, that is the thought from when I wake up from this dream.

It is a long story. And it will be a tearing writing for me too. But I’ll be brave for sure because of You, my Lord.

Should I start from the beginning? When I and the ex were still boy-girl friend, the feelings between me and he goes on and off, and when one day the feeling is right, we married. Again the feelings between me and he still goes up and down. My suggestion for other couples is, before the conflicts are solved; do not go onto the next step. I think this is the one big reason for my divorce. And I believe that also leads out some other fuses to the divorce.

Before I become a believer, I challenge God on giving me a kid. I am then married for more than 3 years, and I am longing to have a kid, I say to Him in my mind, “if I can pregnant now, I’ll become a Christian right away". Very soon after that, I find out that, I am pregnant. I feel both happy and frightened at the same time, I say to Him again, "Jesus, for that is too soon for me to become a believer, I am not ready yet, how about, if my first born is a boy, then I’ll keep my promise for sure." my first born is a boy. God give me free will to make decision.

We came to America together for studying, the second year, my older son was born. I had a part time job and was getting my master degree at that time. So technically, my older one has a master degree also. And I got the most A’s for my classes in my life, probably because the professors appreciate my efforts on that special condition.

As I am busy during pregnancy and with studying, then with taking care with my new born son all together, I kind of forgot about the promise thing with the Lord.

Then before the older one’s 2nd birthday, for some reasons, the father had to go back to Taiwan. I stay alone with my son and continue the studying. My parents came to live with us at almost the same time. Shortly after that I go to church then baptized become a Christian. At first, the reason for my going to church is for my son can get a lot more attentions and cares and chances to get along with some other same age kids. I later become a devoted Christian myself.

I still remember when I first go to church, at the beginning; I always pretend that I have to stay with my son at the child care center because I assume that, "he is too young to leave with other same age kids and the child care givers alone." I stay with him the whole time to get away from the church worship time. then one day, one sister, who is also the one encourage me to come to church and drives us to church and back home from church for she ask nothing in return. She probably secretly notice it, so one Sunday, she finally ask me that, "let me take your son to the child care center for you, so you can stay and enjoy the whole service." and that is the very same day, I was touched by one of the worship song deeply. I was tearing nonstop without any reason. I then was acknowledged that I was touched by the Holy Spirit. I repent to the Lord, take baptism classes, and then baptized. I cannot believe it takes that long for me to give my promise to the Lord and become a Christian. It happens spontaneously. It is better than never.

After the father went back to Taiwan, at first, for couples of years, his still send money to support our living and contacting with us regularly via letters and phone calls and come to visit us each year. I also still want a 2nd child badly, and I don’t want 2 different dads for them. As our relationship is not firm and steady, the long-distance relationship is terrible for me. Still again the Lord Answers part of my prayer, I soon was expecting my 2nd child. I have 2 boys instead of 1 boy and 1 girl, for the Lord must know that I decide to get a divorce. Raising 2 boys is surely easier than raising 1 boy and 1 girl for a single mom like me.

When my younger one was born, the father came for the birth of child. But I almost have no feelings about him. He still calls us after he went back to Taiwan, but I do not want to talk to him at all, I always handed the phone to the older one. Soon he stop calling us any longer not mention about the child support, it stops long before.

With couple years struggle, I then decide to get a divorce. No longer need to answer others, “the father is working aboard". I just bravely reply, "I am a single mom with 2 loving sons."

and before I can make up my mind to find a divorcing lawyer myself, I literally stop going to church for some time, for I know, if not, I’ll still have myself stay in that unreal marriage. That will hurt even more for me and my kids. For the divorce paper, I only ask for the signature from him, no child support or anything, not even take away the children visiting privilege from him. Which no one thought that is a wise or right decision. But if we do spend time, money or energy on getting benefits and/or take away any privilege from him, that the unwise thing to do.

Giving up your own children, is the worst determination, a person can make. You miss the most precocious moments of your life. I never regret on divorcing. Lord is watching over my family, especially my kids. We are never alone or unloved. Actually we get lots more adorations than we can think of.

Psalm 127:3 Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.

Around 11 years ago, I lost my job, the job with fair and steady income. The company is applying for my green card at that time; I lost my legal status in America. My relationship is tearing apart. I feel that I am nobody, I want to quit on everything. There is no hope; I cannot even see where way out of the mess is.

Praise the Lord; if it is not because my kids, I’ll not have the chance to get to know You, I would give up on my faith and everything long ago.
