In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams (the second president of the United States ) and Thomas Jefferson(American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776) and the third President of the United States (1801–1809). He was a spokesman for democracy, embraced the principles of republicanism and the rights of the individual with worldwide influence.), the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826 within five hours of each other., which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Father who became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third President in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.
In 1791 the first recorded use of the name "Independence Day" occurred.
Independence Day fireworks are often accompanied by patriotic songs such as the national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner", "God Bless America", "America the Beautiful", "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", "This Land Is Your Land", "Stars and Stripes Forever", and, regionally, "Yankee Doodle" in northeastern states and "Dixie" in southern states. Some of the lyrics recall images of the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812.

American
flag, consists of thirteen equal
horizontal stripes of red (top and bottom) alternating with white, with a blue
rectangle in the canton (referred to
specifically as the "union") bearing fifty small, white, five-pointed stars
arranged in nine offset horizontal rows of six stars (top and bottom)
alternating with rows of five stars. The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America and the 13 stripes
represent the thirteen British colonies
that declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain
and became the first states in the Union. Nicknames for the flag include the
"Stars and Stripes", "Old Glory", and "The Star-Spangled Banner".http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_United_States#First_fla

The following are the Lyrics for the national anthem.
Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light
what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
o’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O! Say does that Star - Spangled Banner yet wave
o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light
what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
o’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O! Say does that Star - Spangled Banner yet wave
o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
O! Thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
and this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'
And the Star - Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
